Happy New Year, LL! Thanks for visiting last night, Julie and Michelle. I was in bed 20 minutes before the new year, and slept it in  I ended up staying home with Chyna, not an exciting evening but I spent it with my beautiful one :-D She's dressed in pink again, after a red dress last night  , so dosecrease of 0.5u (since she's been in 300s for nadirs) is on. I pray this is the breakthrough dose. She's not feeling her best right now I can tell, but still purring, preening, pooping, peeing and eating all her fuds. I hope this brings her to some nicer colors! :-D

Thanks for all the comments on how cute Chyna is looking at her bowl in yesterdays condo: Chyna 12/31

The radio news announcer said yesterday that our snowfall so far this year (2 months) has exceeded the yearly average  I had posted a link to snow pics yesterday too that I'm sorry some of you couldn't access, at first I used the url/url button but it was one of those long ones that needed shortening so I changed it. It's enabled for anyone with the link and is on picasa web online albums...maybe you have high security settings? but I will try to post the link again in case: Snow, Snow and more SNOW

OT: Not sure if I should post in health or here...does anyone in Canada know where I can buy cheaper syringes, either a pharmacy that is cheaper or online that will ship for a decent cost? They're usually around $40 a box where I've bought so far. ADW doesn't ship to Canada, or I'd use them since I saw some for $13 a box of 100. I like the ones I'm using (BD Ultra-Fine II 5/16" length, 31g, 3/10ml/cc) but would really like a better cost...I know BD has the monopoly here.

My thoughts are with Rhiannon today on her loss of her DM  . Hug all your loved ones today, if you can. Wishing you a wonderful day 1 of a new year

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 dosecrease / cheap syringes?

Happy New Year. Good luck with the new dose. I hope it brings lower numbers. That is such a cute picture of Chyna staring at her food bowl. Good luck finding cheaper syringes. Are you using BD?

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 dosecrease / cheap syringes?

Thanks Carla, we're both on dosecrease duty today! Yes I use BD right now, I edited my original post to add the brand name, too early

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 dosecrease / cheap syringes?

Work that new dose, Chyna!! Staying at home with her sounds like the perfect New Year's Eve to me! Yikes on all that snow...I couldn't handle it.....I am SO not a fan of being cold. I don't know about syringes...hopefully a fellow Canadian will come along soon!

Have a great day, Rachel!!

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 dosecrease / cheap syringes?

Rachel, I will never complain about snow, ever ever again. Those photos are unreal and you have more coming! :o I mean I understand where you live and all, but really, enough already.
I'm sure someone will be by with help on the syringes, Hoping that the dosecrease starts to kick in as well and you begin seeing more lovely numbers.
Happy New Year to you and thank you for visiting me ;-)

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 dosecrease / cheap syringes?

More jooce, Chyna, let's see some better numbers! Our animal communicator said that our civie Tillie wanted to be acknowledged as queen a little more often so we tell her she's the Queen of Everything.  I'm sure Chyna feels the same way. :-D Happy New Year, Rachel!

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 dosecrease / cheap syringes?

Happy New Year Rachel :-D
Come on Chyna, work that extra juice! Sounds like you and Chyna had a very peaceful NY Eve. I hope you don't have to do too much shoveling today.
Hoping someone can help you out with syringe advice. That is a lot of money compared to ADW.

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 dosecrease/cheap syringes?

Hi Rachel,

What a cute picture!
I hope the increase brings Chyna's numbers down. I know how frustrating this can be. It took me quite some time to get Alex down into a decent range. It must be harder for you considering that Chyna was OTJ... but just keep going. You'll find the right dose again.

I looked at the online Canadian Pharmacies just now and was shockered  at the price of syringes there. Are they gold plated? The only ones I saw for a decent price were generic and I didn't see if they had half unit markings. Very weird to me that they'll sell a 5 pack of Levemir pens for 125-150.00 and a box of 100 syringes is 53.00 (on two sites I looked at). What's that all about? Maybe-hopefully-someone from else Canada will know some place?

btw I had the same NYE as you and it was just fine!

Have a great day!

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 dosecrease/cheap syringes?

Rachel - good luck on the dosecrease! I will send good thoughts that it helps.

WOW the snow is everywhere - very different than Tucson!

Happy New Year!

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 dosecrease/cheap syringes?

I still can't see the pics. wouldn't be surprised if it has something to do with my own settings - DH has McAfee on the computers and it's not the best. It hangs my computer up regularly.

stay warm in the snow - er, or out of the snow! hope the dose increase is just what she needs.

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 dosecrease/cheap syringes?

Hi Rachel! Quite the snow pics - I admit it, you have more than we do (and let's just keep it that way, shall we? )

I originally got syringes right from my vet for about 3 for $1 and when I checked with Walmart they were about the same price. Happily for me, a tenant at an apartment block I manage trashed his suite and moved out . . . leaving behind in the overall disaster a giant case of unopened boxes of insulin syringes, like 1000 or more syringes, which I was happy to take off the caretakers' hands . . . so I'm not current on prices at the moment!

I hope you're on or getting close to the right dose for Chyna - hang in there, Rachel!

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 dosecrease/cheap syringes?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I was going to suggest the same as Sienne...check with Wendy/Neko but I know she uses BD, too. Good luck with the increase.

LOVED the photo you posted on our condo yesterday and yours last night....very appropriate

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 dosecrease/cheap syringes?

Thanks for visiting, everyone! The 11am mini meal was a brand new food today. We've been on lamb since last May to weed out allergies, of which I'm pretty sure it is chicken but not sure of the rest as she had all sorts of flavors before. I keep putting off adding a new food in to test it...but I really need to find out if she can eat anything else so I have more alternatives for lower phos foods so I took the plunge. I hope it isn't bad timing for her BG (new food carb 5, the lamb is carb 2) but we are testing beef. Weruva Steak Frites are finally available in a Canada store, so here we go!

The plate was licked clean, over and over and over. She's been staring at it ever since  Sorry Chyna, Lamb is still the primary fuds, you can only have a few of the steak ones while we try it and you don't need the poops! cat(2)_steam

-Amy, you get used to the cold (well, mostly  ). Thanks for the day and dose wishes!
-Sienne, thanks for asking for me, hopefully she knows:)
-Lauren, I feel like it's enough already too ;-) Thanks for the dose good wishes!
-Liz, she probably already knows she is the Queen, but I will tell her again  I hope she listens about the better numbers:)
-Jane, the best part of this morning was NO snow overnight! Yay (and anti-jinx). Extra juice working hopefully in progress... :-D
-Caryl, thanks for visiting, it is frustrating! The syringes must be gold plated...maybe if I scrape them, I could sell the gold to buy more?
-Rich, thanks for the dosecrease wishes! Good thoughts are always appreciated
-Julie, sorry you can't see the pics...I don't know how to post that many to my page (and I'd have to shrink them all)...it isn't pretty, anyways ;-) Thanks for the dosecrease wishes!
-Amy, thanks, I'm hanging! Geez, that's a lot of syringes. I don't even want to know why he had so many :? Oh well, his loss, your gain!
-Marje, thanks, and I'm glad you liked the picture. I thought of you as soon as I opened the page ;-)

As for syringes, I don't really care about the brand, just the gauge/size. I just wish there were some cheaper alternatives...strips are already bad enough for price, even on ebay. I'm grateful the insulin is better priced than the US...If only Wal Mart Canada would get the ReliOn...

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 dosecrease/cheap syringes?

Happy New Year, Rachel and Chyna!!!
I am happy to hear that Chyna liked the new food!!!
I so hope that she's not allergic to it!

I did the same search about syringes a while ago, but as far as I could find, BD at about $40/box is all you get in Canada.
Some pharmacies can supply other brands, I suppose, but the price won't be any cheaper.
Unless you travel to US, we are stuck with $40/box. Some places sell for $38/box, but that's not much cheaper from $40.
Once I bought syringes and shipped to the US address and asked someone who travelled to US to bring back for me.
It was cheaper, but I want my supplies to be something I can always get easily in case I run out because switching syringe brands can make the dosing inconsistent, so I settled with BD in the end.

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 +6 385 cheap syringes?

Rachel:

Wow, that's a lot of snow. We used to get that much when I was little and we were stationed in Maine. Don't get any here in Northern CA. I went to my sister's in Ohio for Christmas and asked her to order snow for me. We got a very light dusting on Christmas Eve, and that was all. We came home Sunday, and Monday morning both my sister and my nephew texted me of pictures of the 4-5 inches they had gotten overnight!!!! No fair! Guess you have no sympathy for me, huh?

Good luck with the increase and finding cheaper syringes. This does get expensive, doesn't it?

Happy New Year, and may 2014 bring good health and lots of blue and green to Chyna! cat_pet_icon

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 +6 385 cheap syringes?

Rachel - good luck on that increase. Hear that Miss Chyna, down you go please - we don't need no stinking NDW today!

Mariko answered the question. Cheapest store price I've found is Canadian Superstore (about $38/100). You can get some online diabetes express but not much difference in price. This one diabetes shop is a bit cheaper but requires a higher purchase for free shipping. If their strip prices are comparable to what you buy, maybe you could combine an order. That's the problem with monopolies - they can charge what they want, gold plated syringes or not.

You could try a mom and pop pharmacy, not affiliated with a chain. We did have one member find some Monojects that way. But she returned to the BD's cause she was getting lots of owies.

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 +6 385 cheap syringes?

Hi Mariko, thanks for your info. I wish I lived closer to the US, or that we could order from ADW! But shipping costs would probably moot the money saved  I hope Chyna can at least tolerate beef, then I can try the NV raw beef and a few other foods with lower phosphorus with beef nailbite_smile

Hi Tricia, thanks for the good wishes. It is getting pricey, considering the CKD supplies, and expensive foods, insulin/syringes/lancets/testing strips! I'm trying to find the best deals, it's just breaking the bank  She's worth it of course. At least you got to see snow for Christmas, sort of? I know a lot of people fascinated by it that don't get to see it  Me, not so much...

Thanks Wendy! I kind of figured that was it for good pricing, but the links to those stores are good to have, in case they have a deal someday :-D I wondered about bulk, or Costco or Wal Mart...probably the same thing tho, I just didn't want to call every pharmacy in town. I'll just try to remember when I'm in those stores to pop by and ask. I hope Chyna listens to you, so far a mostly flat pink, come on down baby girl! Maybe tonight ;-)

Well, I think it's time to go squish and kiss my kitty for a bit :-D cat_pet_icon

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 +6 385 cheap syringes?

Ugh. That is a lot of snow. I'm hoping it goes like normal and we don't get any here this year. I am a party pooper when it comes to the cold, wet stuff. Here in NC, it just turns into slush then freezes the road the next morning.

Can someone from the US buy them then ship them to you or do you think there is some restriction since it is a medical supply? We get them for $12-$13 for a box of 100 from Wamart. Surely shipping would not bring that close to $40.

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 +6 385 dosecrease

Happy New Year!!! I missed the pic yesterday so I had to go back and look. Too cute. :-D Have a wonderful night. Stay warm and safe!

Re: 1/1 Chyna AMPS 356 +2 369 +6 385 dosecrease

WOW on the snow! You would laugh at is here in Georgia. The very hint of snow and everything shuts down. When I was in college, the meteorologists were predicting something like half an inch and the school canceled classes. The next day it was sunny and 70. (They never canceled in advance again!)

However, the pictures are beautiful!!

Come on down now Chyna!!!

Re: 1/1 Chyna PMPS 398

Good luck with the dosecrease, hope it's just the ticket to bring Chyna down. Good grief on the snow!! We hardly e-v-e-r get snow. Earlier, I told Sienne that things often close down around here at just the threat of snow. My BIL moved down from NY because he said he was tired of having to shovel his roof. The only time any of us get on the roof is to sweep the pine straw out of the gutters! :-D

I hope you find cheaper syringes. I think they kind of have us over a barrel. I've read that insulin is cheaper in Canada, but the syringes are cheaper here and it's not like we can DO anything about it. Unless, of course, we want to visit back and forth when we need something and I doubt that's any cheaper for most of us! :YMSIGH:

Have a wonderful 2014 -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Hi again:) Well that +2 sucks. About the same numbers all day/evening going tiny bits up every time...so far. Le sigh. :YMSIGH:

Hi Tina, the freezing roads are not pleasant either, blech. I don't know on the shipping from someone in the US, I don't know anyone and it's probably against customs laws or something...shipping does cost a lot though, depending on the carrier. I paid $42 for my last shipment from a cat meds place, it's the only place I can get some of it so I had to pay it even though the parcel is really lightweight. I ship stuff to people all the time (I sell stuff on ebay to get rid of it if it's new or barely used, and it can be much cheaper to the USA so I don't believe them when they tell me that it really costs that, there is the postal service to use. Like $10-15 for light stuff). A lot of companies use high priced couriers or charge mucho "handling". Ah well, maybe I will luck out :-D

Hi Melissa, thanks, I think it's cute. I am warm and safe...and stuck at home, snowbound, lol.

Hi Suzanne! My sister lives in Vancouver and when they get snow they shut down too she says ;-) Seems weird to me...we never shut down :? I remember when I lived on the farm when I was a teenager we were drifted in for a few days, and my dad ski-dooed me to the neighbors to babysit for them (they were only a few miles away, on a main road that was plowed)

Hi Libby! Thanks, I wish she'd come down...this is depressing. I don't have time to shovel the roof, I'm too busy with the driveway   Too bad we can't have an LL party, with everyone bringing their lowest cost supplies and we could do a swap! If only I had a star trek transporter so no one had to travel and waste money! :-D

And with that last statement, I just advertised my inner nerd

The weight is barely over half of a pound for 100. Shipping calculator says $4.35... I used to ebay a while back. We just marked things to Canada as gifts to save fees. Might be worth it to check it out with your post office.
