Happy New Year Lantus Land!! Hope everyone had a safe and fun night last night, or just cuddled with someone you love..with or without fur

I have to admit, I wasn't so sure about all the differences I'd heard happen when feeding raw, but boy was I wrong. China's been on nothing but raw for about 2 weeks now and I can already tell that there's a difference. Her coat, which was SO thick and soft before is even thicker...and I didn't think it could get softer but it sure feels softer to me! She feels like a velvet kitty.

I have also noticed she seems to be gaining muscle. I'm not 100% sure about this, but it just seems like when I pet her, I'm feeling more muscular tissue

Now for the problem...she's decided she won't eat the Natures Variety turkey and the Chicken is almost gone. Now she's been REALLY loving the chicken, but I'm concerned at some point she'll get tired of it and want something else. I have limited space in my freezer for a bunch of different bags of different flavors too. I've only got 1 medallion of the chicken left and a whole bag of turkey that she now won't eat, so to keep her fed today, she's going to have to eat a little Fancy Feast. Tomorrow I go back to Columbia so can stop at the specialty food store to pick up more Chicken (of course with my luck, she'll decide she doesn't want that anymore)

I've also started a new spreadsheet for 2014 but I've left the link to the 2013 one in my signature. I hope that's the correct thing to do so the data from 2013 is still available to compare to the new year.

May 2014 bring us all health, happiness and lots of OTJ kitties!

Hi Chris! What a beautiful surf for China! :mrgreen: Sorry about the fuds problems...typical cat :roll: I hope that she doesn't tire of the chicken when you get a new bag, paws crossed! I'm still thinking of trying some raw, but I wish they had trial bags instead of giant costly ones, I asked and they said no :? Hope the greens continue for China, and Happy New Year to you all :-D

Hi, Chris, I'm glad you're seeing a difference in China's fur/muscles!
I wonder if her New Year Resolution is to switch up her fuds preferences ;-)
She has very nice numbers today. What a nice way to start the New Year :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Thanks everyone!

I've tried Rabbit with her in some of the canned foods but she didn't seem too impressed, but I really don't know if that's because of the rabbit or the other ingredients (and texture) of the other foods. Some of those foods are textures she just doesn't appreciate. I did just find a little bag of duck Natures Variety "Bites" so if I'm careful, I can hopefully keep her fed today/tomorrow morning without going totally back to canned

I think one of the biggest surprises for me is how much she LOVES it..at first she wasn't so sure about it, but lately, she is all over it and never leaves even a crumb for the civvies. Wish they made a "trial size" in the rabbit and venison

I'm glad switching to raw is doing so much good, and even more glad China loves it.
Lucy loved raw, but her body could not process it well, and I'm still sad about that.

Super lovely cycle to mark the beginning of new year!

Looks like China's resolution was to go green. Hope she sticks to it!

I'm not at all familiar with feeding raw. Do you have to go to a specialty store for it? If so, what kind of store? I'm wondering if I should try some for Cinco. One problem he does not have is lack of appetite. Quite the opposite, in fact - I'm constantly concerned that I'm over-feeding him, but he's always so hungry.

Tricia, I live in the middle of nowhere, so there aren't any stores around here that would waste precious space for a freezer for dog/cat food. They just wouldn't have enough customers, so the only choice I have is to drive to this specialty store. It's available online, but the shipping for me would cost more than the food does!!

If you look on the Instinct Raw Website you can see if there's a store near you that you could get it from.

Nice cycle for China - I'm glad to see she's flattening out a bit on the raw diet now.

There is a noticeable fur difference when you go to raw. I got compliments on Neko's fur from the dental vetty. :-D And of course there are the LB benefits for you too. ;-) I'm glad China still likes the chicken. Neko likes all proteins, but she's an acrocat so she likes anything. The civie however slightly prefers the red meats (including venison) to the poultry. It is a good idea to try rotating proteins so they don't get tired of it. Hard to do with limited freezer space though. That's the benefit of the kind I feed, individual flat vacuum pack shape takes up less freezer space.

@Rachel - I've seen Natures Variety Chicken and Beef trial sizes in Canada. They are available if your pet food store will order them in for you.

I was talking to one of our adopters about raw food recently. I would love to switch to something like that, but with as many as we house at one time, at any given time, it would be a difficult transition. Therefore, I have no useful experience with it. She says she prepares her own though. Apparently there are some good recipies online. You just have to make sure they are getting all of the vitamins and minerals that you don't normally find in just meat.

Happy New Year! China is looking good today. :mrgreen: That's great the raw food is having such a positive effect. I hope you can continue to find what she'll eat.

Well..we DID have a nice day going until this silly bounce! I know she'll come back down quickly (at least she used to).

And Oh great....forecast for us is up to 8-10" of snow overnight/tomorrow and I have to drive in it.

Looks like 2014 isn't going to be a heck of a lot better than 2013 was...LOL

A friend sent me this and I think it's just beautiful. If you have a few minutes, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It's even more awesome if you view it in Full Screen
