Furball was happy & purry this morning. Today is her rescheduled vet appointment at my old vet to see if they can help with the polyp in her left ear. Hopefully they'll be able to remove it because I can't afford to go see a specialist like my current vet wants me to do. Her appointment is at 12:15. Since I have today off from work, things worked out.

Morning Carla ~O) ~O) ~O)

I so love happy furry purry kitties. You surf well today Furball. Good luck at the vetty! Bummer on the cancelled appointment last night, but it sounds like this will work out better, no rush, no traffic. I hope they will be able to help Furball. Specialists can be so expensive.

Have a great day. I hope all goes well.

Sending good vetty vines, Carla! Hopefully you'll come back with a polyp-free kitty and money still in your wallet. Our regular vet here is extremely expensive. I can't even begin to imagine how much a specialist would cost. Of course, we don't even have specialists close by. :YMSIGH:

Her BG at +5 before going to the vet was 195. Her BG at +7.25 after the vet was 176. I thought it would be a lot higher.

Sorry this is so long.

I am very confused now. Dr. Webster said he could not see a polyp in her ear. He asked another doctor to look and he didn't see one either. Her ear is infected and had a lot of gunk and pus in it, but they cleaned it out really good. I asked if he could see her ear drum and he said yes. I would think if there was a polyp, he would be able to see it. They gave me baytril/hydro B 1020 to give once a day for 2 weeks. I’ll have to watch since it has some steroid in it. I may have to adjust her dose. Her ear should feel much better after the good cleaning.

When I got back home, I reviewed Furball's file. The notes I have from my old vet (2/29/12) say Furball had a possible polyp in front of her tympanic bulla, because that day the vet couldn't see into her ear very well. She had a lot of liquid in her ear because I wasn’t thinking and gave her ear meds before the vet visit. When she was first diagnosed with FD, her ear was really bad off. As the infection cleared up, the vet kept checking her ear. The next couple of reports (3/27/12 & 4/14/12) said nothing about a polyp, but she could have a possible infection on the other side of the tympanic bulla. The last report at my old vet (5/12/12) it was looking much better but the tympanic bulla appeared to be scarred over. She said if the infection came back, Furball likely had a deeper infection and would require special testing.

I then switched to my current vet and Furball had a dental done on 9/12/12. Dr. Dascoli looked in her ear while she was sedated and said she does have a polyp. After treating ear infections off and on since then, Dr. Dascoli wants to refer Furball to a specialist at OSU for removal of the polyp.

Today I took her for a second opinion at my old vet because I can’t afford a specialist. Since Dr. Webster says she has no polyp, I am really confused. I have left a message with Dr. Dascoli to see why she wants me to see a specialist. I have not told them I got the second opinion yet, but I guess I will need to when she calls me back so we can discuss things.

She does get a lot of ear infections, even with me cleaning her ear periodically, so something seems to be going on. I don’t know what to think at this point. I’m going to give her the meds for 2 weeks and see how she’s doing after that.

Wow, that is confusing. It will be interesting to hear what your "new" vet thinks of the "old" vet's findings. I agree the first thing to do is get the infection cleared up. Perhaps it isn't a polyp at all, but some kind of bump that comes and goes, similar to a pimple? Is that even possible?

Great that Furball's BG stayed so steady. Cinco doesn't get spikes from vet visits, either.

Sending healing vines for Furball's ear. I hope you get this figured out!

I talked to my mom and we have both been praying about Furball's ear. It is possible God healed the polyp.

I'm not sure I'm going to say anything to my new vet right now. I don't want to cause problems. It could sound like someone is accusing her of lying and saying she has a polyp when she doesn't. I'll have to see how things go.

I wonder if there was pus from an infection and it was mistaken for a polyp? Very strange. I hope your old vet is right. Get the infection cleared and then have one of them take a look is my only idea.

Hi Carla,
I think the best thing to do is give the course of medication and then see how she is in 2 weeks. If you don't hear back from the vet on Monday, just call again. Fridays can be busy in vet offices.

Sending lots of beautiful vines for Furball, and hugs for you,

Ella & Rusty

hi Carla.
wow it would be great if furball doesn't have a polyp. maybe it is just an infection & the medication will clear it. that has got to be so confusing ... good thing you did get a 2nd opinion. sending prayers that furball heals and feels great. you take care too.
hugs
