Re: 09/22 Furball +10.25=141 AMPS=191 +10.5=174

It looks like Furball had a nice blue day today. I hope she keeps surfing tonight.

What is the best way to transport insulin and keep it safe? I am taking Furball to my old vet Thursday after work and will need to take her insulin with her. The only appointment I could get is at 6:00. Her shot time is 6:15. It takes 20 to 30 minutes to get there with traffic. That is one of the reasons I switched vets. I don’t want to shoot that early or very late, so I’m going to shoot at the vet’s office. I figure with travel time, the whole thing could take 1 hr. to 1 hr. 30 min. I have a cooler I take my lunch to work in that I can use.

I’m getting a second opinion on the polyp in Furball’s left ear. My current vet wants to refer me to a specialist to get it removed, but that is not something I can afford. I’m hoping my old vet will say they can remove it.

Thanks for your advice.

i carried punkin's insulin from oregon to colorado in a small cooler. i wrapped the insulin in bubble wrap (cuz i had a ton) and then kept it in the cooler with blue ice. the important thing is that you don't want the insulin to freeze, so just provide some protection (wrap the blue ice in a dish towel?) so that the insulin and the ice can't touch. It ought to be fine for you.

good luck at the vet's! these little babies are made of gold, aren't they?!

I would probably draw up the dose at home and put the syringe in a cooler with some ice. I would think it would be fine until you give the shot. Nice blues today!

Keep on keeping blue Furball - looking good!

When we traveled to Fort Collins, I had my insulin package in a tupperware (fit snugly so no movement), inside a cooler with an face cloth between it and the ice pack. Since then, I've invested in a Frio Wallet that I bought at ADW. Sending you lots of good vetty vines.

Personally, I wouldn't take the vial (or pen) since it's only for one shot. No reason to expose the entire thing to sketchy temperatures.

I like Liz's idea...
I wouldn't want to risk the entire pen for that one shot....
Are you going home to pick up Furball and insulin after work, or do you have to go to work with her and the insulin on Thursday?
I've never had to take my insulin outside home, but if it's only for a couple of hours, I don't think you could ruin it whatever you decide to do....
Sending many good vetty vines.
I hope your old vet can help.

Nice cycle today!
