New Day--Life is an adventure
New Day--Life is an adventure
I just checked Phoebe--94......should I check in another 1/2 hour? It is a normal number
@Diane Tyler's Mom
just tested. getting out the gravy food.
ok... I gave 1 tsp of the chunky extea gravy. I believe it has 13 Carbs.now you know your cat better than I do but if it were me, I would do low to medium carb food, something like 10-15% calories from carbs. but this depends on how the cat responds to carbs, every cat is different
it is a balancing act. You don't want to shoot the BG back up, ideally just get it to stop dropping and stay in the "normal cat" range of about 60-120
why's that, what was the number? gravy food is typically HIGH carb and usually should be avoided unless you really need to bring that BG up quickly, like if you got a number under 50 for example
thanks for tagging for me.

Ok. she ate about 3/4 half of the gravy. I will check her in another 30-45 minutes. I gave it to her because of the 94 to 64 in 45 minutes. the other day she did the same thing--only at night. Which I stayed up to ensure she would "surf". You are probably right though....maybe i could have sat tight and test in another 1/2 hour.
Oh she definitely needed some food imo, to stop the drop. But not necessarily gravy food. It is possible she would have been good on just low carb food, who knows.
It is so hard to have the courage to let them surf in the lower numbers, the first couple times I got lower numbers I panicked and fed high carb food immediately. I was so scared. But over time, it becomes more normal and less scary and you start to learn how much food to give, and what carb %, to keep them from dropping but also not shoot way up.
yes I did---102----You're doing great for really just starting out at this.
did you test again yet?
Good catch! Phoebe earned another reduction. Your next dose is 1.75u. With time, data and information on what % carbs work (or don’t) you’ll be more comfortable. Sometimes too it depends on when you see the drop in the cycle which determines what % carb to reach for. Depending on how carb sensitive you find Phoebe to be (which you learn by gathering data) you may find early drops in the cycle and steep drops may warrant higher carbs while later in the cycle when presumably the dose is waning would likely require LC.
Nadirs can and do move around. As Kyle and I mentioned it takes time to get a feel for how your cat responds to insulin and carbs. Nothing wrong with feeding a tsp of the 13-14% but maybe next time try a teaspoon or two of a higher LC and see if that works.
You should be fine waiting until pmps unless you are curious.

If Phoebe isn't eating any of the party mix get rid of that and replace it with the name of the other dry food. Wasn't that the Wellness Core Original Dry?I have stopped all Friskies party mix. I have a lower carb dry kibble out
I found this that one of our members posted just in case no one is around
Here is an easy guide to what to feed and when
60 and above: low carb food (less than 10% carb)
Between 50 and 59: medium carb food (between 10-15% carb)
49 and below: high carb emergency food (16% carb and higher)
Hi Eva boy Phoebe is starting to get with the program
You're doing great, again I wasn't around
Had a doctors appt
Congratulations on the reduction!
Can't wait to see what she does tonight
I'm glad @Christie & Maverick and
@Hendrick Cuddleclaw Kyle was around![]()

Question was answered on the Chewy site
Wellness core original says
What percent is carbohydrate?
Answer by • Mar 25, 2021
This recipe has a carbohydrate content of 13.04% on an as fed basis and 14.17% on a dry matter basis.
Eva if you ever need a higher low carb option I forgot which one it was look at the food chart, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a pate but I do know it was 6% carbs

Which Fancy Feast Pates is Phoebe eating?
It's good to note in the remarks section on the spreadsheet what you had to feed ( how many carbs ) to bring Phoebe's BG up so you can look back to see what you fed and how it worked ,so when it happens again you can look back and see what you fed

Try not to feed a lot of FF Fish Flavors because of the mercuryIt is the Wellness Core original. But she doesn't eat much. I have put more of her FF in her bowl. But she shares it with Jack---16lber. But he is eating the Instinct. at $44 I can't throw it out or let Petco throw it out. When he comes around I put a small handful for him. He doesn't like being on a diet....hahaha.
as far as the FF pate---salmon, ocean feast, sometimes liver and turkey, cod-shrimp-, chicken, I change it up every day so they don't get bored.
when Phoebe went low the other night and today, I gave her Friskies Turkey meaty bits with extra gravy. I scooped out the gravy with a few bits of meat--chopped the meat and gave a teaspoon of it- 14% carbs. then waited an hour and checked--she came up to 102. which is blue--but still a good number. Then I waited till her pmps.
I have friskies also in my pantry as I have 3-4 feral kitties outside that get fed twice a day with none other than the Friskies party mix. Of course, they love the party, but they love the moist. Today I actually put out FF liver and chicken--as Phoebe shunned it. they gobbled it up. So I may switch everyone over. The cost may be an issue. I look at the food chart ---I buy more pate now than gravy.
And you are a saint for taking care of all those kittiesHendrick was very helpful until Christie got on.
This is very encouraging. I am so blessed to have all of you in this with me. I can't thank you all enough.

I found the higher low carb ones
Roasted/Flaked/Chunky are OK look at the food chart some are 4% and 6% carbs
Maybe Miss Fussy will like those

You are asking the wrong person when it come to technical stuffthat is so weird.
I entered the 301 @6.75 on my baby laptop last night. But it doesn't show up on my desk computer.
Am I losing it? How does this occur?
