WCR: So far, so good with the Num Num Shuffle. This morning, she'll be getting 32g again at +1, and 26g +2. As much as I'd love to rush this, I prefer to move at a snail's pace.

Off topic: We took Shadow to the vet's last night. This vet, thankfully, sees clients after hours, and is located right across the street from our regular vet. Otherwise, we would have had to taken her to a vet hospital, which would've cost a lot more.

Yesterday evening, at around 6:15, I went to go feed Shadow like normal. I noticed her walking rather unstable from under the truck to the porch. When she got to the porch, her balance was very much off. She wobbled like a drunken sailor. I got her onto her box to feed her, and put some more antiobiotic ointment that our regular vet prescribed into her ears, and let her eat. After she ate, she was very wobbly. I also noticed that she's lost a fair amount of weight. When my DH came home, I told him about it, and he spent some time with her while I was making dinner, and taking care of Blackie. I went back outside to see how they were doing, and that's when he noticed a lump about the size of a walnut behind her right ear. She doesn't like anyone touching her ears. Not usually. I panicked. I called our regular vet and left a message for them to call back, but after receiving their call, they don't come out for small animals. I called the 24/7 emergency clinic, which is located a good 40-45 minutes away, their consult fee was $95.00.. JUST to see her. So, I dialed the vet's # across the street as I knew his grandfather used to own the clinic, and we've been there before after hours with our late dog, Goldie. We called him up, left a message, and because I was impatient, I started calling other places, all which told us to call that emergency clinic 40-45 minutes away. Finally, the vet called back, and asked us if we would like for him to see her. I was trying to finish my dinner, and I vehemently nodded "yes". I told DH to tell the vet about 8:35-8:40 as it was Blackie's and the others' feeding time.

We got there at 8:30 on the nose, called the vet from outside to let him know we were there, and he came down and opened his bay door (he lives above his clinic). Brought her in, he took her temperature, weighed her (she dropped about 1 lb. from last week), proceeded to check around her ear, and under her throat. He noticed that there was swelling around her throat, and got the clippers to remove some of the fur to see better. He was going to do a syringe test (drawing some of the fluid and putting it onto a slide... forget the name of it), but thought better of it, and suggested a biopsy instead.

Shadow was a trooper through it all. Not once did she ever hiss, or growl at the vet, whereas she did with our regular vet. You walked in there, and it never smelled of antiseptic, or animals, or anything. It was clean.

In a nutshell, we left her at the vet's last night, in a cage, with a towel from our home, and a pad to lay on instead of the cold metal floor. I'll be calling them at around 11:30 this morning, per my husband's request, and then will let him know how it went at around 1 when he's on his lunch break. I said bye to her before I left, and told her that I'd be back to get her the next day. She purred as I kissed her little head, and I told her that she'll be fine.

As much I thought I like our regular vet, I think I'm going to be switching vets. Our regular vet only provided an antibiotic shot a week ago, and sent us on our merry way. This vet suggested a biopsy as it would be more thorough than drawing fluid into a syringe and slapping it onto a slide. It's a 50/50 chance to have some of the cells from a lump go into the syringe, whereas with a biopsy it's more accurate. Once we get the results from the biopsy next week, we'll know more about what we're dealing with. I'm thinking it may be cancer. If it is, there's no treating it. That's when we'll be asking ourselves the inevitable question... Do we make her as comfortable as possible and potentially let her suffer and be in pain, or do we let her go?

Lord, please give me the strength to do this all over again.

MY WISH: For God to help heal the broken hearts of those who lost a beloved pet and/or human... For God to help those ailing make a full and speedy recovery... For everyone to have great #s... For everyone to be OTJ.

Preparing yourself for the worst is one thing. But, don't get ahead of yourself. Right now, it's one step at a time.

Re: 09/12 Blackie AMPS 111 (Prayers For Civvie Shadow, Pls)

Dear Angela,
We hope that Shadow will be OK and that whatever it is will prove to be nothing serious. If the lump is so close to Shadow's ear, it's mere presence may be causing her unsteadiness (the inner ear governs balance). It may be just a cyst. Wait for the results of the biopsy and think positively. OK? The new vet sounds like a find. Please update us on how Shadow is feeling today.

Prayers and good thoughts for Shadow; scritches for Blackie and all the fur kids. Lots of :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: s for you,

Ella & Rusty

I know, Sienne. With the loss of 2 cats already earlier this year, one can't help to think the worst, you know?

Thank you, Ella. I think he mentioned removing the inner ear, or the entire ear, but not sure at this point. I'll keep you all posted today on what is going on. I'm sure that he'll know more as he goes in this morning.

Sending many prayers your way .. That it's not cancer, that the biopsy shows it is just fluid that can easily be removed, and that she comes home quickly ...

Re: 09/12 Blackie AMPS 111 +2 94 (Prayers For Shadow, Pls)

+1 - 32g Evo 95% C&T
+2 94 - 26g Evo 95% C&T

Thank you. I will keep you all posted later today. I just hope that she's going to be fine. I don't know her exact age, but I'm guessing she's a bit older than her records state. I just wish that all of my babies would stay young. Old age isn't a friend to anyone, it seems.

Re: 09/12 Blackie AMPS 111 (Prayers For Civvie Shadow, Pls)

Sending a ton of prayers your way. I know it's hard to not think the worst, but remember we're all here behind you! Many years ago, one of my kitties had a lump on his neck. Took him to the vetty thinking it had to be cancer; it turned out he had gotten into a fight with our other kitty, a claw sheath had gotten stuck in his neck, and the lump was an abscess around that sheath. The same thing happened with one of my childhood kitties, too. They both bounced back nicely with treatment. Many prayers that Shadow's lump is something super easy to treat, and all will be well with her!

This vet sounds great, very thorough and caring, so your choice to switch is a sound decision.
I'm wishing the best for your baby. As others have said, don't get too consumed by fear. Focus on health and a happy outcome. Our cats can easily sense our emotional states, so Shadow needs you to be an anchor of calm love.
