Furball was happy & purry this morning. She was 70 at PMBG this past Friday. She's still doing great. Baby is doing fine too. No sneezing right now.

My mom found a stray kitten and brought him in. He is very hyper and jumps at her hands and feet and climbs her clothes. She keeps getting scratched and is on a blood thinner. She is worried about this. Does anyone have any suggestions to help stop him from doing this? She's afraid the won't be able to keep him.

My best advice is distraction! This is a kitten and they have boundless energy. Tire the kitty out by playing with toys -- interactive toys like wands and treat balls (balls that have a hole in them so when the cat plays, a treat drops out). Also, a firm "no" for inappropriate behaviors. Climbing clothes is not a good thing especially if it persists once the cat gets older and heavier. Rewarding good behavior is also indicated. A cat tree for the kitten to climb should also help.

Happy to hear that Furball is doing well OTJ!
I agree with Sienne's recommendations.....as soon as kitty jumps at hands or feet or climbs clothes give the kitty a very firm/sharp NO and remove the kitty from the clothing.

It's normal for a kitten to do those things. If it's big enough keep clipping nails they do grow fast. Mom could wear long pants and long sleeves. There are nail covers you can put on kitten but I don't know if kitten would be big enough for them.

Anything that moves kitten will pounce on. Every time you mom walks, kitty will pounce the feet. She can wear heavy material slippers like leather or suede moccasins.

Thanks everyone, but he seems extra hyper. We're wondering if whoever dropped him played really rough with him and made him wilder than normal.

My neighbor took in a stray about 5 weeks old. He never stopped running, climbing, biting, pouncing his own shadow, anything that moved he sprung on. Now a couple weeks latter he still constantly on the go but better as not trying g to climb up your leg.

You have to play to tire him out. Maybe one of those moving toy where the ball rolls around a ring. Get a cardboard box and cut holes in the sides so he can go in and out of it.

I hope the suggestions of tiring him out with play and toys will help. But if not, maybe he isn't a good fit for your mom on blood thinner.

I also agree with toys, etc, and redirecting the kitten to a toy immediately when he starts being a wild child. Would your Mom be up for adopting a second kitten so this little guy could have "one of his own kind" to direct his energy on? And if she's not able to clip his claws, maybe a vet tech can...I've got a couple who I can't do their claws, but the techs have no problem.

My mom has another cat, but they aren't getting along right now. She's hoping they'll get used to each other and play together. The other cat is jealous. She has to keep them separated for now.

Hi Carla :coffee::coffee::coffee:

It is great to read Furball is doing so well. YAY!

I agree with the others... the kitten sounds lie Lola. She is so feisty, almost hyper too. She has mellowed alot since we first adopted her, when she was just shy of being 1 yr old. We also played until she was worn out, taught her the rules, more or less. She is still one very active kitty, but not as crazy as she was when we got her. She too had issues with the others, well mostly Elsa. But as time moved on Elsa taught her the rules, and they actually became good kitty friends.

When I had my tiny kittens (bottle fed from 3 weeks) the way I solved the problem of them going after my feet when I walked was to hold and wiggle and trail a string out at arms length! They played with the string no left my legs alone! The other thing was to play with them regularly, get them zooming to tire them out.

Hi Carla,
I'm so glad to see how well Furball and Baby are doing.
I guess the concensus is to get the kitten tired out with play. The climbing tree sounds excellent. I think a kitten would like the 3-tier tower with a ball on each track. Rusty likes it a lot.

I like a string on a stick toy. You don't have to move much and the kitten does. I try to play with them on cat furniture so they can scratch and claw on something appropriate. I hope your mom can work it out with the kitten. Good report on Furball and Baby!
Liz
