08/23 Molly AMPS 133

Have you tried adding Miralax or freeze-dried pumpkin or psyllium (metamucil) or anything like that to Molly's food?
Yes, but she recently had diarrhea. So I gave her probiotic every 2 hours. Now she hasn’t pooped. Not sure what to do now. Stop the probiotic I’ve been giving it to her 2 times a day now.

How much Miralax? Like an 1/8 of a teaspoon? Anyway, you may just want to try adding psyllium to her food (plain unflavored Metamucil). And start slowly! Some cats will eat food with the freeze dried pumpkin powder and some won’t. In my house the ones that need it aren’t the ones who like it, of course, so the food with the pumpkin is stolen by those who like it! I hope the probiotics will help get her more regular! Which kind of probiotic?

I found the miralax didn’t work. So the plain Metamucil will help? Buy that at the drugstore? I’ll take a pic of the probiotic at lunch

Oh. Okay. s. boulardii is a yeast. It didn’t work for my cat with chronic diarrhea, but it depends on the cause … and you are trying to help the opposite problem. I read that it can be helpful in constipation if used in conjunction with other broad spectrum probiotics. I never tried it for constipation. I had no luck with Miralax or finer (like pumpkin or Metamucil) but a lot of people do. Lactulose is something that helps a lot of cats (a liquid that is compounded and available from your vet who would order it for you.). I mixed into food. It doesn’t seem to taste bad. I would not directly syringe into my cat’s mouth because it’s sticky and can be messy in their fur. Anyway you have many options. I hope she will go soon! Don’t let it wait too long since it can damage the colon by stretching it out too much.

Yes. Just at any store. Plain Metamucil unflavored. There are many different types - some even have sugar. You can really buy generic psyllium. You could even order it online. I know you will read the ingredients and not get the kind with sugar or other junk (like artificial sweeteners … bad for cats.)
