Squallie is doing pretty well today. He vomited a very small amount last night; pretty sure it's the piroxicam causing it, it's only happened on days he's gotten the med. He has also had some mild diarrhea, also probably from the med, but I don't think it's bad enough to stop the med. I will probably call the vet either today or tomorrow and discuss it with him.

I got the report from the US in the mail yesterday. As soon as I figure out how to get my printer to work properly I will scan it in and post it. I really don't know what to say about it; I put off opening it and reading it because I was afraid it would just be too disheartening. In my opinion, it's just the opposite. I get that it says he may have cancer, but it's not definitive, and I just don't get the sense of doom and gloom that the vet and specialist seem to have. I don't want to give myself any false hopes, but...I am anxious to post it and get other reactions to it.

He seems to be slowly but steadily regaining weight, and overall seems to be pretty much his old self. The major issues are not eating wet food, and as a result, not getting all his meds (potassium supplement, glucosamine, d-mannose, Miralax when needed). I have tried syringing them in water or broth but he fights so violently that I am terrified he will aspirate it. He loves the "Squeezies" squeeze up treats but will not eat them if I squeeze them out into a bowl - go figure - or I'd mix his meds in that. I am considering using a small funnel and adding them to a partial tube to see if he'll take then that way!

HE IS STILL PAWING AT HIS MOUTH! It's only the right side, and it doesn't happen every time he eats, but it does happen frequently. It is worse when he eats a bite or two of wet food than it is when he eats dry.

Thanks again to everybody who has been pulling so hard for us. Your prayers, your support and encouragement, your strength, all help so much more than you can ever imagine. :bighug:❤️ :bighug:

Gaining weight is REALLY good news. Have you ever tried using empty gel capsules for meds? They changed my life. I’d question the doom and gloom vet’s also. I’m also wondering if something in his mouth is bothering him due to the pawing and maybe eating canned aggravates it??? :bighug:

I looked into gel capsules for one of my other cats a couple of years ago - I can't believe I didn't think of that for Squallie! Thank you so much for the idea!

That's exactly what I'm thinking about the canned food maybe aggravating his mouth. My regular vet said it looked like a piece of bone or tooth trying to work it's way out, after the dental, but I would think it would have come out by now! If it continues much longer, I will take him back to see if they can remove it.

I wonder if the wet food is "colder" so to speak, so it is hitting a cracked tooth and causing some pain? Like us peeps?

Love the capsules! With Jones' list of meds it makes things so much easier.

Gaining weight is good. I am little confused on the dx as if it is advanced cancer as they suggested you don' t think he would be gaining weight...the opposite actually.

I'm glad Squallie is gaining some weight and acting more like his old self. It does sound like the wet food is hitting the place in his mouth and causing problems. Sending more prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yeah Squallie :bighug: Such a good update, Lucy :) I’m still super bugged by the use of the words” may have ...”what the heck :woot: :woot: :woot: That it’s not definitive ??? My money is on Super Senior Squallie Bear beating whatever this nebulous diagnosis is and showing them all what for :):):):):):):) That’s my opinion and I’m stickin’to it . GO, SQUALLIE, GO :cat: Extra hugs and peace filled prayers to you , Super Bean Lucy :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Have u ever tried freeze dried raw, like primal or Stella and chewys? That’s what Bella eats

Deputy Squallie is lookin' good. He is doing his thing: confounding the "specialists". Good boy!:cat:
I hope that the gel caps will work for you and that Squallie's mouth will stop bothering him. It could very well be a bone fragment working it's way out. When I had an impacted wisdom tooth extracted many years ago the dentist had to smash it to get it out. He didn't get all the fragments and they were a real bother. Buy they finally worked themselves out.

Hugs for you, Lucy :bighug::bighug::bighug:, and scritches for the Super Senior.

I used to feed him pre-packaged frozen raw (Nature's Instinct), and he loved it, but it got too expensive when I was feeding it to all four cats. I could try it just for him again, though, he did really like it. But then, he really liked his canned food, too, and now he looks at it like it's something toxic that I'm trying to poison him with. Very frustrating!
