08/19 - Jaxon - Remission? - AMBG 67 PMBG 56

After a month a doing it, it's become routine really :) was planning to test regularly for a bit at least and try one more curve to see how his levels are now off insulin. Guess I would do that in OTJ?

You can post wherever you want. I bet nearly everyone suffers from testing withdrawal. Several post here with updates.

Figured I would at least finish his post for today ... will likely post the curve when I do it .... am inclined to test daily (I did so when he was first diagnosed, at least when I COULD get a test)

You don’t need a curve once the otj trial is finished. You didn’t even have to test daily any more. Refer back to the otj directions. Test weekly for the first month or so and then monthly for life. If you see any signs of coming out of remission test daily to see.
.

So: Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for Jax. If I decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let my meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his blood glucose right away.

What I wanted to know is IF I chose to do a curve to see how he is doing over a given period, do I need to wait or has the 14 days been sufficient for me to do it (for the purpose of seeing how he is doing over a "cycle")? This was response to an earlier post from someone else on my thread.

The reason I wanted to do the curve is regarding the bolded statement in your "OTJ instructions" ... to see when it tends to dip. Though if I am feeding him it will raise it no doubt .... so not sure

I honestly didn’t recall anyone doing a curve regularly when otj. When it says let the meter be your guide it means when you do test if you get a number out of range it would be a good idea to start testing a little more, for example 3-4 hours after eating to see if the bg comes back down. Food will bring his bg up most likely. That’s why the test 3-4 hours after eating if you get a blue or higher.

Why didn’t you go on the otj forum and ask there? Take a look at some of their spreadsheets while there as well.

Or just go with your original instructions, once a week for a month ... then once a month going forward. Sorry to be a pain about it.

You aren’t being a pain. I understand the fear of going out of remission. I’m sure some test weekly forever. It’s a hard habit to break I think. Max never went otj so I have no idea what I would have done. If you want to test keep testing even twice a day nobody will stop you. Do what feels right for you. No judgement is being made. :bighug:

Thanks, I might for a bit .... might switch to once a day for a bit, then once a week and then finally maybe once a month .... but I am afraid of missing something ya know? Not sure if should do AM or PM (when I do once a day) though .... in the OTJ trial he did not have a marked higher one ....
