Banner day here yesterday. Went to Dr. for 2 week post op check up and got A++++. I am no longer using a walker. Now it is crutches and full weight on right leg. I can also take a few steps without anything. He expects me to be using a cane in about 2 weeks. My staples are out, that was a little touchy feely since the incisions were healed and the skin was growing around the staples. Now just a few steri-strips. He was extremely pleased with my progress. I am also off all narcotic meds. Tuesday night my body finally decided it had enough of Oxycondone and I was sick all night. I take no meds and I really think I tolerated them well considering. I really don't have a pain level now. I have discomfort but that is getting the muscles working again. Surprising how fast they deteriorate. I am continuing with my physical terrorist (PT) as Dr. H calls it. For all my efforts I got a big hug. My friend that took me said she knew why I wanted to go there, he is one piece of 'eye candy', in fact all the docs in the practice are. I will not be able to drive for 6 weeks yet but that is best. Even though I am making a great recovery I don't know how the leg would function with reaction time if needed and I certainly don't want to have an accident.

Here are some random thoughts for the day of the accident. I have a very dry sense of humor and was trying to make light of the pain I was in. Kathy said I had they all laughing. I'm glad for that.

Well, in all situations, there is some humor. When I fell, in Khoko’s stall, he was out in his paddock. He came in and was walking around me in a circle nickering and nudging me with his nose. Finally, I patted his nose on one of his passes and told him to go out. He went out and stood in the door to the stall and called to me. He wanted me up off the floor.
Kathy helped me up, so strange to see your leg dangling and going in a circle with no means of controlling it. UGH. Kathy wanted to call 911. Nope, I said, they take you to the closest hospital and I wasn’t going there. She got me into the golf cart and took me to the house to put me in the car. It was now 11:00 a.m. and almost time for the horse’s lunch so I told her to feed lunch. She was not happy about that but I knew she would not be back soon and they needed their lunch. She said only I, sitting there in extreme pain, would worry about the horse’s lunch. Yep, I would have had she not fed them. I sure the events of the morning upset them so they didn’t need to miss lunch too.

When we got to the hospital, a Dr. came out with a wheelchair and lifted me out of the car. As you enter the ER there is a scanning device to check for weapons etc. Of course, being in a wheelchair, I could not go through the scanner. The officer asked if I had any dangerous weapons and I replied, “The only dangerous weapon on me is my disposition at present”. He laughed.

Next step ER exam room, the nurse and doctor performed the normal vital checks, etc. gave me some morphine and decided to remove my jeans. Nurse said to DR. you pull left leg, I’ll pull right leg and she looked at me and said lift your hips. I replied If I could lift my hips I would not be here. She again stated they needed to get my jeans off. I asked if they had any scissors. She said that would ruin my jeans, better my jeans then my leg. After she cut off my jeans and underwear, she handed them to Kathy. I asked Kathy to take them home, wash them and sew them together so I could wear them home when I was discharged.

X-ray was the next adventure. Very interesting, after a second shot of morphine, they took all angles of my right leg and hip, final instructions, extend your leg straight into the air. I asked if this was some form of torture and explained I could not control my leg. Result, they held it up for me.

I received excellent care , private room, a nurse, technician and aide. As for the ER, they were only doing their job and did not realize the extent of my injuries. The nurse later stopped to see how I was doing. She thought I had a great sense of humor. I must say, I'm glad it is all over and I will be more cautious in the future. Tripping over one's foot is really stupid.

Thanks for all the prayers, white light, snowflakes and well wishes, as usual they are working fantastically.

P.S. Kitties are doing well except Tuffy she is still stressed by the whole thing. Hopefully she will settle soon.

 ;-) Thanks for the update Barb. You are as much a character as Tuffy is, you know that? I'm glad you are healing so well, and so fast. You are one strong individual. Maybe, that's why I like you and look up to you :-D Can I be like you, when I grow up?

(((((Barb))))) So good to read your post and hear how well you are doing...along with some memories
of the day too! That was really such an experience.....and I am so happy that you are doing wo well now!
Yes, it is pretty stupied to trip over one's foot....is that how you put it? I bet if you had it to do over again you wouldn't trip over anything at all. right??? LOL
SOME people will do anything for a few days' rest though....

Keep on doing a great job with that healing and take good care of yourself, okay?
Hugs to you !! :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Barb!! You are AMAZING!! What a story and you are an inspiration to take it all in stride and keep such an excellent sense of humor. We pray for your continued fast recovery.

And Tuffy.....chill!!!

Re: 08/17 Barbara & Tuffy UPDATE

Wow, you are making GREAT progress, and I am a PT (physical terrorist) so I completely understand!   You are exactly my favorite kind of patient to work with, humor is such good medicine!

Maybe Tuffy doesn't understand what happened and just needs an explanation about why you took off and came back all different. Perhaps the KTSS needs to come by and get rid of your vetty smell.

Re: 08/17 Barbara & Tuffy UPDATE

What a great post! Love the ER story, humor sometimes can be the best medicine. I am so amazed at the speed of your recovery. A great testimonial to a great individual. Keep on truckin'!!

Re: 08/17 Barbara & Tuffy UPDATE

Barb - My hunch is that you're doing so well because you have accumulated MOUNTAINS of good karma, loving all things great and small as you do. I can practically see the waves of healing love coming toward you. You'll be back in the stall again soon!

Keep feeling better.

Hugs!!! :RAHCAT :YMHUG: :RAHCAT :YMHUG:

Well, today was super. I got to see Khoko after almost 3 weeks. Nancy took me to the barn. He does not know her car so he was not paying attention when we pulled up. She got out and got my crutches and said something and he heard me reply and was in his stall hanging over the door calling to me. I cried. When I got to his stall, he just smothered me with kisses. Then he kissed Nancy as if to say Thanks for bringing my Mom out. I opened the stall and went in and he had to smell the crutches and then immediately went to the injured leg. How do they know? He smelled, looked at me gave me kisses and smelled some more.

After the barn I went to the grocery store. Total outing time about 3 hours and I was beat when I got home. I have the stamina of a wet noodle. I also walked about 20 feed with no crutches today. YEAH. The only discomfort I have is all the bruising hurts. Most of the leg is now that terrible yellow color. The only part still really black and blue are my ankle, foot and toes. Hope that is reabsorbed soon.

When I got home, I needed a nap. I made it into my bed and Tuffy spent about 1/2 hour fussing over me. I was about to give up on a nap. She was happy to have her nap time with her bean. She has been spending a lot of time out with the others and bossing them around. Some things never change.

Got to visit a few condos, sitting is more comfortable. For those I missed, I'll catch up tomorrow. Sure was great to see Khoko. Hopefully will go out again in a few days.

Thanks for all you well wishes.

WOO HOO!!! A KHOKO VISIT!!!

I can so see the scene at the barn I know he has missed you, and you him. Wonderful that you got to go. And Tuffy?: still being Tuffy. She will continue to fuss over you until she is convinced you are all healed up. One has to love having a personal nurse maid. :-D :-D

Enjoy your evening! A tiring as it was I know it has been another banner day. Awesome.

Awesome whole bean report!! I'm so glad you are doing so well, as is everyone in LL. :-D :-D :-D I'm sure Khoko was worried about you and now he knows you are on the mend.

What a wonderful report, Barbara! Khoko must have been overjoyed to see you and know that you are OK. I love the way he immediately checked out your leg. And Nurse Tuffy is on duty. What could be better than that?

Have a fine evening. Get lots of rest. And "every day in every way [you will be getting] better and better".

Thanks for visiting Rusty today.

Love and hugs,

Ella & Rusty

Hi, Barb - Makes me smile just to think about how happy Khoko was to see you, and you him. :-D All's (almost) right in the world again! Hugs. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

thanks for sending me this link on FB, Barbara. Sounds like you are doing great...getting back to normal slowly but surely! It's wonderful that you can still have a sense of humor in the times of pain, isn't it, lol!

It also sounds like Tuffy may be settling in a bit....especially with the napping idea! Wet noodle stamina is to be expected, but by what I am learning about you, that won't last to long either. You seems like you are a fighter and don't give up easily.

I'm also glad that you got to visit Khoko! I am simply amazed at his intelligence! I am not very familuar with horses...I've ridden a few times, but don't have any experience with ownership or even friendship with one. Are all horses like this or is Khoko an exception? I would really like to meet this boy....and look into his eyes. I bet there is so much love that comes out of them, especially for you. How sweet!! I hope you can get daily visits as soon as possible!!!

Great WBR! So glad to hear you are doing better and better. Tuffy deserves to fuss over you and boss the others around too. Humor is always the best way to cope!
