@Butters & Lyla ,

Lyla, how is Butters doing? And you?
Butters is doing okay, thank you for asking. Certainly better than she had been doing the past couple of weeks. I know I can get enough calories into her now, which is amazing! Because she was barely eating off and on for a week or more, the vet had me give her less calories initially, and I'm slowly increasing the amount I feed her daily to get back to her full caloric intake.

The e-tube is easy enough to use, but each feed takes close to an hour from preparation through to cleaning the syringes after I'm done feeding her. The instructions say that each meal should be given slowly, between 15-30 minutes per meal. But I have to flush the tube before and after, and push meds, so the time all adds up. I am probably pushing things in a little more slowly than I need to be out of an abundance of caution.

On Thursday evening her vet put her on back on Prazosin because she hadn't been peeing even after all of the IV fluids she received at the vet's on Wednesday. She has been peeing better since then.

I have to prioritize her GI issues and inappetence. I am turning over her diet to the vet nutritionist. Butters has been mainly raw fed and/or canned LC for 6.5 years and that hasn't worked so at this point I'm willing to try pretty much anything in order to keep her eating and to get her feeling good. CKD is on the back burner, and DM is also on the back burner: I'm willing to give a higher carb canned food a shot and increase her insulin accordingly to keep her in healthy numbers.

Surf safely, kitties:cat:.

Have a good day, all!

Hmmmmm....I am suffering from some next level sleep deprivation so hopefully what I said makes sense.

Right now I am feeding her a/d food through the e-tube, and then will be giving the z/d canned a shot. The switch to z/d will be step one of the food elimination trial. This nutritionist vet is all for from scratch homemade diets that she formulates, but that is not what she recommends to start with in Butters's case. It is a possible goal for the future. She talks about Butters having hypersensitivities, but hasn't suggested any kind of allergy testing as yet. As I understand it, step one is generally a food elimination diet before moving to allergy testing.

Unfortunately I think we are beyond the point where I can just try foods that might be easier on her stomach. I'm not sure what those foods would be. I don't know for sure even what is wrong, although ddx seem to be IBD or triaditis, currently. Both vets seem to be on the same page with this.

She is a little more alert today and has eaten a few grams of food by mouth overnight for the past couple of nights. Other than that, she has no interest in eating anything.

Happy to hear the feeding tube is getting Butters the calories she needs and she is peeing. Good luck on finding the best foods for her and what’s ailing her. Love and prayers from me and Dolly. Hope you can find the time to get some rest Lyla. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thinking of you always. AD is not too high in phosphorus so a good interim food. Most cats like it so hopefully she will start eating more on her own soon. I thought they were switching to ZD now but it might not have as many calories. Thanks for the update. :bighug:

Thank you:bighug:

They're switching her to ZD canned for the food elimination trial. There is currently a supply issue here so the vet only had 12 ZD cans to give me and no date on when it will be back in stock. I'm trying to source it elsewhere but they don't want to start the ZD food trial until they know I am stocked up on it so it is AD for now. Once I get the ZD, I'll switch her to that.

Hugs and love to you and Dolly from me and Butters.

Thanks for the update on Butters. You have your hands full. It sounds like maybe you now have a team of vets who can work together to help Butters. I will be thinking of you.

I’m right there with you on privileging the other issues above CKD and diabetes. I’m doing something similar with Ruby except it’s prednisolone rather than food. Once you settle on a food that Butters will eat without upset or reaction, I am sure you will find the right dose of insulin that will keep the diabetes under some control. It might take some time but I know you have patience in abundance. Big hugs, cat mama! :bighug:

Oh Lyla! You are certainly doing everything that can be done for sweet Butters! I do hope and pray for her to feel better soon! She's certainly getting the very best of care from her loving mama! You are an angel!!!

Take care and try to relax today if that's possible!!:bighug::bighug::bighug:

(((Lyla))). You are an amazing mom to Butters and I’m sure she knows how lucky she is. I’m happy she’s eating even a tiny bit in her own.

Please be sure and take care of YOU. Healing thoughts and light for you both :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

So glad to hear things are working better.

Only reason I did not do elimination diet with Tripper is she is to picky with food. And she would have starved herself. So allergy test was a place to start and while waiting for results kept trying different foods. But Trips issue was allergy, not that she wasn't eating. Except now she isn't eating.
