Increasing Lantus dosage to 2.0u tonight. This is getting ridiculous, and a tad bit scary. I seriously hope that she doesn't need 8u BID like she did before she went hypo.

Is there something else going on? Infection maybe? Getting into dry food? Did you get the test for ACRO? (sorry) Just wondering.

No for all of your questions. From what I've read about acromegaly, it is more commonly in males than females. She doesn't have any enlarged extremities (skull, feet, or jaw), no enlarged tongue (I just checked), increased muscle mass or abdominal enlargement. I just called the vet to find out the cost of it, and they told me that there is no specific test for it. No idea what that cost would be. So, I'll be increasing her dosage tonight to 2.0, and hold for 6 cycles, and go from there.

She's not gaining weight, either. In fact, she's holding her weight, and she's been negative for ketones, also.

I'll keep plugging along.

No apology needed, Rob. I'm concerned as much as you are.

2u really isn't high at all, I wouldn't be worried. Bix needed almost that much to get good #s, and many cats need more than that. I think we are all spoiled b/c we have seen a number of cats come through here recently who have gotten good results on low doses. That isn't necessarily the norm though... I've seen more cats than not here that need higher doses. I doubt you'll get to 8 since that was on high carb food.

What you DO know, and it's good I think, is that you got results back on 8u on HC food, and the 8u even was too much. So I doubt she is a high dose kitty, my guess is still some insulin resistance, or she's just a kitty who needs more than she's getting.

The cats that only need a tiny bit to get results probably tend to have livers that aren't reacting too much, and pancreases that are already showing signs of life. Many cats though don't have either of those, and it's just a matter of getting to a dose that works for them. You'll get there! :-D

Thank you, Joanna.

Here's tonight's update:

PMPS +4 382 @ 9:30; gave 2.0u. I'm sure that I'll see at least 1 red # tomorrow. It's going to be an interesting 6 cycles.
