Have you offered him small pieces of liver in its juices? Or tried assist feeding again?
Am I remembering correctly that he recently liked pieces of plain cooked chicken and chicken broth?
He gave up on the chicken a couple of days ago. :( Right now we're trying tuna, he ate a mouthful but that's all. He got his appy stimulant about an hour ago, so he should be hungry, but he's not. He'll eat the Squeeze Ups and the crunchy treats, darn it! Why won't he eat his food??? I'm so upset and frustrated!

Will he let you assist feed him? Or finger or spoon feed him?

Well, squeeze ups and treats are better than nothing-- at least he's still interested in something, right? My mom had a cat that for the last several years of her life (and she lived to something like 22 or 23) ate nothing but Temptations treats .

His appetite may not get much better until he gets himself un-blocked up-- he's likely feeling yucky still because of that. Hopefully it will be resolved very soon!!!

Not willingly.
I’m thinking with the appy stimulant on board if you can get bit of slurry like fud in him might be, as Beth aptly described assist feeding, prime the pump....and override mouth discomfort and possible nausea.

As much as Azalea’s liver shake, I did modify it for her bc she did not like the raw egg yolk ingredient. I made hers with carrot juice (bc she didn’t like tomato juice but she was not diabetic). I made hers with raw calf or chicken liver, spring water, egg white powder (about 1/2 - 1 tsp) and sometimes could sneak in about 1/2 tsp egg yolk powder, plus the spirulina or kelp powder. And sometimes I added her supplements to LS instead of in fud.
And with her I often assist fed her a few cc’s of slurry food or LS or alternated both and that spurred her to eat more on her own. This was especially so after her surgeries and during stomatitis flares.

You may just have to cajole Squallie at the right moment and nestle him in your lap or snuggle him in a towel (burrito) and go slow.

ETA: I may have mentioned this earlier but sometimes I added a little plain pumpkin or beechnut baby butternut squash to LS and/or het fud.

Eating *anything* at this point is good. If he is willing to eat that is good. Don't forget about AD. Maybe top w/ HC treats?

Peeing is also very good. When I first saw your post that his bladder was huge, I was worried, so glad that quickly resolved.

If he is still constipated, he will feel "full", so this may take a bit more time.

Well, I got a few syringe-fulls in him! I plan on getting some more in, I 'mm giving him a break for a few. I am concerned about his insulin dose tonight: his PMPS is 247! :arghh::eek: Should I still give him the 0.5U or should I increase it?

No advice on dose but do go slowly on the syringing . I’d give him at least 30 minute break to keep him from any possible vomiting . Praying hard for you both, Lucy :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:Y’all have been thru enough !!!!

Lucy good to hear that he let you feed him. Baby steps yay!❤️

I don’t feel comfortable giving dosing suggestions so this doubles as a bump!

I'm using a syringe that help bupe to feed him, it doesn't hold very much. But I figure every little bit helps! The vet said he didn't even try to poop while he was there, so hoping some food will stimulate his system.

You can buy pet feeding syringes at many pet food stores, including Petsmart. Maybe even baby ones at pharmacies. Those small 3ml bupe syringes hold hardly anything,

I used 3cc and 5cc oral syringes to assist feed Azalea. Larger sizes freaked her out. I didn’t prefill; I drew up from her dish. I have lots of wrapped and unused 3cc ones; glad to send you some.

Hi Lucy,
I’m down at camp this week with spotty internet so have missed quite a bit. So sorry to see that Squallie isn’t eating. I think that one reason might be that he has had a bit of trauma (not to speak of the tooth issue). Things might settle down now thst he has peed and the stool softener is beginning to work. And he is home now! Give him a little time to adjust. I wouldn’t change his insulin dose.
I hope the tooth fragment works it’s way out soon.
Eat yer fuds Deputy Squallie! Maybe Chef Felix will make you some chicken broth (@Susan&Felix).

I walked into my local CVS and just asked at the pharmacy and they gave me an empty baby syringe for free... but I don't know if the lady could just feel my panic and felt bad.

Any food is better than nothing and I agree his normal dose should be fine, as long as youre getting some food in, whether treats or syringed A/D

I hope Squal starts to feel better soon. Our cats not feeling well is never fun.

I have all the ingredients for the liver shake, except the spirulina - it hasn't gotten here yet. Does anyone know if it's okay to go ahead and make the liver shake without it? Just to try and get something into him?
I made the liver shake with out the spirulina. I don't even think my recipe had that ingredient in it.

Thanks, Sina, I'll take you up on that!:bighug:

Lucy, this sounds silly, but do you have a thermometer that you can grease up with some Vaseline an "take his temp? that lube and the sub q fluids that the vet gave Bubba on Monday had him drop off 2 hard poops as soon as I got home with him and let him out of his carrier. I think the combo of the "back door " being greased with some extra fluids was the magic combo. Just an idea.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I don't have a thermometer.:( The vet tried it a couple of times before Squallie was released today, though.

ETA: Squallie's problem is that the stoppage is so far up. It's got a long way to travel to get out!

Auntie Lucy, I will try to help you in any way I can. And I will purr for you and Squallie. Purring always makes everyone feel better.

Squallie, KTSS will give you the soup and spa treatment. You'll feel so much better when we get that icky vetty smell off you. Hope your momma doesn't have to get too pokie--don't let her push things up farther! Tell her you need extra cuddles. And like Auntie Beth says, you and Auntie Lucy both need extra rest.

Purr-purr-purr,
Felix

p.s. Hi, Auntie Ella! Purr-purr-purr.

Thank you, dear Felix! Your purrs must have helped because Squallie ate a little bit of his liver shake-a/d concoction, all on his own! :cat: Thanks to your mama, too, for her support and encouragement! ;):bighug::bighug::bighug:

Just as an interesting side note, one of my civvies is not eating now; I'm not even sure which one it is but I suspect it's Candy. :arghh::arghh: She has her own set of difficult-to-deal-with problems! :(
:banghead::banghead:

I sure hope things loosened up overnight.:rolleyes:.

The last really bad panc flare with Gizmo I free fed. Put several small bowls/plates with spoonfuls of a/d around. When he would settle into a sleeping place I put one very close so he had to smell it. I spooned water over the top so it didn't dry out too quickly. And, as cruel as it sounds, move him where he has to walk to where he wants to be. Physical mobility will sometimes help internal mobility (kwim?).

I suspect once the poo issue resolves Squallie's appy will pick up (fingers crossed).

Thanks, Lizzie! :bighug::bighug::bighug:\]

He did have a little bit of an appy this morning, even without his appy meds! We're hoping that whatever he consumes now will push that nasty mess on outta there!
