Yesterday was a better day for us all. I had good report from surgeon and Zener was feeling better. Zener's appetite was good and with the lower BG numbers he was sleeping less, playing a little, bird watching, stretching, grooming and using the litter box more than the piddle pads. Will keep an eye on him for a few more cycles to make sure bounce is cleared before considering a dose increase.

That's a 150 point drop since AMPS. I know we are still new at this and don't have all that much data, but I am curious from those who are more experienced, is this an indication he may be breaking a bounce, or is a drop like this normal at this stage of the game?

I will get a +9/+10 to see if he is on the way back up later.

IMHO, looks to me like he's breaking a bounce. You'll know for sure if he continues to slowly drop as he approaches PMPS instead of coming back up. If he comes back up, it's more likely just his cycle with a late nadir. If he keeps dropping, be sure you absolutely post a +10.

The reason I say this is that Gracie is one who likes to do these slides into PMPS when breaking a bounce. When she's dropping like this on me, I've learned that I have to bump her up at +10 because she just keeps dropping. If you know this about Zener, you might want to give him just a little to eat (LC) at +10 and see what he does. Just a thought. I'd be careful with him because of his CH; you don't want him dropping too low at PMPS where you must stall. I know you don't have a lot of latitude. But keep in mind that giving him a little at +10 can also backfire and send him up. Trial and error....opportunities to collect data.

i agree with marjorie. in this case, it looks like zener may be clearing the bounce.
although, it does seem like zener often has a later nadir than some other kitties.

Thanks all! I still have a hard time telling what is breaking a bounce and a late nadir. I know....more data! Putting on patience pants now. ;-)

We gave him a bit of LC after his +6. He has not been eating all that well today and is acting a little punk. Guess he is not used to these lower numbers. His polyuria seems to have cleared from his last venture into the really high numbers.

His BG up just a tad, and is now hiding in one of his "no one can find me" spots. Not feeling at his best today. Will get a +10 and post then.

He is on the way up and almost looks like a mid-cycle nadir today, not sure if that's what we are seeing or if it is still bounce clearing, but numbers are coming up. Will get his PMPS and post. Acting a bit more perky than this morning.

See how much data you got? Now it looks like his nadir was around +6 since he came back up.

The next interesting question...will he get a second lantus dip? In reality, there isn't a lot of difference between his +8 and +10 if you account for meter variation BUT I think it shows a trend that he's going up. If he dips back down at PMPS, that is different than a dropping number. Some kitties get a second lantus dip but it "shouldn't" be less than the nadir. This is not the same thing as a dropping number from a clearing bounce so I wouldn't be afraid to shoot him on time....unless, of course, he totally bottoms out ;-) :lol: :lol:

Thanks Marjorie, you must have read my mind before I got his PMPS. He has dropped a small amount from 220 to 212, which as you wrote, can be meter variance, so I am planning to go ahead on time with his usual dose. Does this seem reasonable?

Thanks Sandy, the numbers look good but he has been pretty low energy today. Adjusting to lower numbers I hope!

Zener is outside now with his other bean, sniffing in his yard and doing his business outside. He seems to perk up when it gets dark, just the opposite of his beans! His appetite has not been the best today, but he is eating a little better tonight. Fortiflora really helps get him started. I'm still fatigued post-surgery but recovering more each day. Hoping to get a good night's sleep tonight as things look pretty smooth right now.
