07/29 - Jaxon - AMPS 76 +3.5 50 +4 67 +6.25 63 +9 63 PMPS 74 +3 52 +4 56 +5 65 +6 67

I would get one earlier test at +2 or +3 like you did last night. Just so that you aren't caught by surprise with a low reading at +6.
If he is much lower at +2 or +3, you can feed accordingly.

What's the strips situation like? Can buy them tomorrow?

Should be able to tomorrow. DCIN said I could get 2 packs (which is what I used last month) ... till then got the knack of getting enough blood for the Contour Next and strips for it

Your boy is doing really well isn't he? That 36 was scary yesterday but you handled it very well. I also got a 36 a couple of days ago and just about fell over backwards. My 36 was at +2. Please get a +2. You need to make sure he is not dropping too low too fast.

I missed the excitement yesterday. Congrats on the reduction. Still green after a low. Very impressive Jaxon!:D

Well it wasn't the first time I had him dip low .... so I just did what I was told to do previously (think it was by Bandit's mom or Chris). It is when I have NO idea how to handle a situation that I am a bit panicky

Oh and when I shared Jax's sheet with the vet yesterday .... this was the reply she sent with one of her assistants:

Dr. Shannon advised "Owner should be congratulated on their phenomenal work with tracking Jaxon's blood glucose! This is a fantastic chart. Keep up the good work. If any additional questions, please let us know!".

Not his regular vet (not sure if he has ever seen his new one because the one that diagnosed him is not with the low income clinic anymore) but still .... I told them in reply that I had two online communities I get information from (see how they react to that) .... You guys for anything regarding dosing, and both groups (Facebook and here) for general info and community support

Surf safely, Jaxon :D And I saw Chris say yesterday not to worry about ketones if in normal numbers & no DKA history but FWIW I tested Jax weekly when he was regulated (no history of DKA). This info page on Ketones (link) says:

Do I need to worry about kitty developing ketones if kitty is OTJ (off the juice) or when blood sugar numbers are not high?
Yes, even if a cat is not on insulin, he is still a diabetic, and it is possible that ketones and DKA can develop especially if he is skinny and not eating right. Sometimes, cats blood sugar goes into the "normal" range for the wrong reasons (like poor appetite or illness) and they actually still do need insulin to help them gain weight, heal and prevent ketones.

I am pretty sure there have been cats OTJ or in "normal" BG readings with ketones - I tried searching for specific posts but @Marje and Gracie briefly mentions her experience in this post - https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...-trial-day-6-with-update.239785/#post-2696588

All that to say, I'd personally use urine strips to test for ketones weekly (I used a blood ketone meter but strips are $$$$).

I have the dip-strips ..... right now Jax is just getting hungry but as it is less than 2hrs till shot (just over an hour) I am TRYING to not give in ...

Currently playing rough with this little mousy that hubby made him for Christmas it has a bit of catnip in it

Hi Allison, With a 52 you need to skip the LC and give MC. Medium carb in the 50s and high carb below 49. Please test him again in 20 minutes and if he’s still in the 50s give more MC.

Earlier when he had near this level, it was a mixture so I did the same thing again this time. Should I give him more food, this time MC now?
