My cat was just recently diagnosed with diabetes and I switched him over to wet cat food. The issue I am having is he will eat something for a few days to a week and then refuses to keep eating it. I have tried blending it, different flavors, different textures and it never fails the cycle keeps repeating he LOVES it for a few days then won't touch it. I know he's hungry because he continues to whine for food, but I'm running out of options and can not run to the store every day for something new. He has not started on insulin yet because I am going on a trip soon so the vet wanted to wait. I was hoping to have him eating well by the time we start that so it won't cause a problem with his inuslin. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome. This is a pretty common scenario, I've read many a similar post before. For some reason, there seems to be many cats out there who get picky!

We rotate different kinds of food every day and that has worked well for us. Also, I recently bought EZ-Complete mix and made some homemade food, the cats loved it! You could try that as well.

Other things members here use are Forti-flora (enzyme that cats find irresistible, its the stuff Temptations are double-coated with)

Or Stella and Chewy's freeze-dried RAW morsels. My cats freaking love them but they are pretty high in phosphorus so we only sprinkle a little on the top as a topper and often it results in kitty eating the whole meal.

Welcome. When is your vacation? How long will you be away? Do you have a copy of his labs? Did he have ketones when diagnosed? Picky about food can often be due to nausea. Do you know which insulin your vet suggests? What was he eating before diagnosis? Sorry for all the questions.

I've got two picky ones and they require a little PureBites freeze dried treats to be sprinkled on their food. I randomly change their food daily, but the crushed treats are the big motivator. They eat for a bit, then when they stop they get the sprinkles, which helps them to go back and finish their food.

Thank you I'll try some of these!

I leave on Tuesday and no I do have a copy of his labs but it doesn't say anything about ketones. For insulin we are going to do glargine. He was eating royal canin satiety dry food before.
