07/28 Dallas AMPS 7.2

Dallas' AMPS was 7.2 and my boyfriend who is taking care of Dallas while I'm away for work gave him .5 of Lantus. I had asked him to come on the group anytime his PS is lower that 10 (he has the username and password), but he didn't. His reasoning was that no-one would be online that early in the morning. My questions are...was this a good/bad move to make? And just so I can let him know, is there usually someone online who can help as early as 6:30am? We live in Nova Scotia, Canada.

I imagine I will be seeing some high numbers due to this. Would tomorrow still be a good day to do a curve to determine a possible change in dose? Thank you!

Yes. I am in Mumbai, India and @Bron and Sheba (GA) is in Australia. You can tag one of us for help the next time you encounter a low preshot.

When you get a number lower than you are comfortable shooting, stall without feeding and test again in 20 minutes to see if his BG is headed up. You want to gradually lower our no-shoot number over time. With SLGS you can shoot any number over 90, if you can monitor.

His numbers will be higher with the token dose given today. To get a good idea of how he is doing on this dose, I would wait another 4-6 cycles to do a curve.

So, if the number was headed up could he have gotten his full dose of 1.25? He's on leave now, so he can monitor, but on days that we both have to leave to go to work what would we do? Give a token dose with extra food?

Yes. If you can monitor, I would encourage you to shoot even if it's not higher. You could start by lowering your no shoot number to say 150 (~8) to begin with.

Any chance you can get a test befoe you leave for work. People who have to leave for work, have arranged their shot times such that they can get a +2 before they leave. The +2 is usually a good indication of how the cycle will be.

At most I could do a +1 before leaving for work. Would I stall the insulin till the second test?

Is it an option to move the shooting times? For example we usually shoot 7am and pm but now because DB is not home and i have to go to the office we shifted to 6.30 which gives me time to test +2 and still get to work before 9. Of course you would adapt for your own schedule
If you decide to shift the schedule here is a link where you can find instructions

For my own sanity I’d rather not shift the schedule as I would have to be up extremely early including weekends. It’s already very tough and we’re both exhausted. I know some may think this is selfish, but I have to think of our own mental health as well. If I suspect he’ll be low the following morning, would it be ok to check him 30-60 mins earlier than normal or does it have to be strictly 12 hours?

i would not dare say it is selfish, i believe we have to find what works for us because this is a “long term project”, so definitely chose what works for you, we just like to come with ideas :)
If you are asking about the 30-60 min prior the test, in order to ask the question on the forum, this is a great option, it would give you some time before the PS to get advice on how to proceed if the BG value is lower than what you are used to and as well this would give you information about the BG trend (upward or downward).
