he is doing so well! he's so darn close to normal numbers, but he keeps throwing these occasional higher numbers at the end of his cycles.

Kath, one thing that sometimes works to bring down preshots in a cat that's getting close to OTJ . . . can you try giving him 1 teaspoon, literally 1, of regular low carb at +8 or +9 in both am/pm cycles? you don't want to give much because the strength of the insulin has waned in the second half of the cycle. But a tiny snack will often be enough to stimulate the pancreas in this situation to put out a little more insulin, which will result in lower numbers about 3 hrs later.

do you have a timed feeder you could set to open during the night?

it will help if you make notes in your spreadsheet about this so you'll be able to tell if it's helping or not.
