Good Morning. I BCS'd J.D.'s dose this morning because of the dropping number and he didn't want to eat the two different flavors I offered him at 1st Breffis. I gave him his Ondansetron and Pepcid and added the Cyproheptadine again, this morning. He ate 1/4 can of MC FF Medleys. When we went on our walk this morning, he just wanted to eat some grass and then threw up a couple times (bile and treats). He was pretty snuggly over night, so I think maybe the Lactulose is causing some tummy upset.
Hopefully, he'll feel better by the end of the day. I am going to try to get to work early today, to make up for my leaving early yesterday. I will leave out some more MC for him. Maybe he'll get some before Ginger scarfs it down.
Maybe, I'll come home to a prezzie in the L.B.

Hi guys .. sorry to hear that J.D. might of had an upset tummy last night .. I hope his poo issues are resolved soon and he get's back to feeling 100% .. this mornings a nice blue, but hopefully he doesn't drop to low, if he's not interested in eating .. hang in there! He'll feel better soon!

Good morning, Dyana! Hoping for a lovely day in the  s for you both today, and a nice prezzie in the LB, too. You're both doing wonderfully! Keep up the excellent work! :YMHUG:

Hi Dyana, sorry about J.D.'s tummy and hope it is resolved. It takes a couple or few doses before the Lactulose starts working. Sending good vines for J.D. to have some prezzies.

Hope JD feels better soon Dyana. Thanks for the note regarding how to travel with the insulin. I did it just how you explained;)

likin' this amps!
Wishing you poo prezzies when you get home!
Question - is the Lactulose a syrup? I used to give it to my ex-roomie's kitty Taddy for his megacolon issue and it seemed a little thick to me. I was just wondering because if it is, that my make JD's numbers rise. Just wanted to bring that to your attention. May not mean anything....

And Miralax....Spot is on Miralax therapy...he get's 1/8 tsp. twice daily because he has constipation problems. This really help. Of course I keep an eye out on things and if his poo looks like it's a little loose, I with hold it for a meal or two. It really helps him. He's been on it for a few years now.

Hi Deb. The Lactulose is a liquid and I could put it in J.D.'s food, but the vet said it didn't taste that good, and J.D. doesn't eat foods with meds in them, too well. Ginger likes them, so they will trade dishes  So, I am happy it is a liquid and can give it directly into J.D.'s mouth, but it does have some sugary substance in it, so it could make his numbers rise, but it didn't affect him last night. I was thinking I shouldn't put that sugary substance in his mouth because of the dental issues it could cause, so was thinking I should maybe give him some syringed water after the meds, and then do his teeth "brushing" (I just put the toothpaste on my finger and rub it onto his teeth).

I don't think I should be using both Miralax and the Lactulose at the same time. I am trying the Lactulose, because of the administration. Ginger kept eating J.D.'s Miralaxed food.

I did end up adding 1/4 can of MC into J.D.'s 1st failed Breffis of 1/4 can of LC and he ate it. Ginger was all happy and insistant on getting some of that good stuff, too, and was trying to get his yummy food. I kept shooing her away, and J.D. actually put his big foot in his bowl, as if to say "this is mine!".
Then, I tested him and he was 241 at +1, so I ended up not leaving any MC out, but just the usual frozen LC and LC in his feeder. Hopefully, he isn't sky high, when I get home.

Well, back to work, I guess.

Hi Dyana,
The Lactulose hasn't affected Maggie's numbers at all; in fact, strange as it seems, they are even better since taking the Lactulose. I marked in my comments section when I started the Lactulose if you want to take a peek at Maggie's ss! I'm sure it is just a coincidence though with her numbers and probably because she's feeling better. And then ECID, too! Carolyn & Latte posted something from JoJo's earlier days on the Lactulose and why it may not cause high numbers. I'll go back and find it and post it here.

Here is the post from Carolyn & Latte on my July 24 condo, quoting something from an older Board from JoJo on Lactulose:

Here, I found JoJo's explanation regarding Lactulose on the other board. I never understood why, so now I know! :
the "sugar" in lactulose does not enter the cat's blood stream changing BG. laxatone however is a different story. not a product that you want to give a diabetic cat.
miralax is an acceptable substitute. usual dosing is to start at 1/8 teaspoon and more up as needed.
don't forget to add extra water to food, osmotic laxatives can be dehydrating.
and another explanation:
Lactulose is a disaccharide, two separate sugars, combination of the simple sugars galactose and fructose.

Lactulose is not absorbed from the intestinal tract into the blood. Instead, it passes unchanged to the large intestine (the colon).

In the colon it is broken down into acids, the acids draw water into the colon, softening the stool and increasing the volume.

This is why it's always mentioned to increase your cats water intake because the absorption into the colon takes water away from other organs.

Re: 07/26 J.D. PMPS 388

I am going to log off because we are having terrible thunder storms. Just wanted to say that there is a house sized poo in the litter box. I didn't see him do it. It wasn't there when I checked when I got home from work, but I saw Ginger go, and now there it is, J.D.'s prezzie to me :-D
Okay, hope everyone has a nice night.. Ni~Ni..

Hey, Dyana -

Not that I know much about anything...but, the doctor told me constipation in people can cause diarrhea and vomiting Don't know if that contributed to this morning's episode or not.

YAY! for LB prezzie!!

Sweet Dreams -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)
