J.D. was a really good boy at the vets. The Best Part according to J.D. is coming home. He is never happier than when on the car ride home
I think I found a new vet. She's not the greatest with diabetes, yet, but I like her and I like the practice. It's not right around the corner from my house like J.D.'s regular vet is, but they are open late until 7:00pm Monday through Thursday, so if I had to, I could conceivably sp? run home from work, grab the cat, and get there by 6:30pm. With my other vet, they close at 5:15pm, and I have to leave work early to try to rush there.
And, they had coffee and cookies in the waiting room :razz:
The one hour long office visit was $68 and they call is Exam/Consultation, with problems.
I had them do a blood pressure:

She said his BP was okay. She said they look at the average. Later, I waited around for her to explain the BP more to me and she again said that they look the average and pointed to the MAP, which she then called Mean. She said you want the AMP under 150, so I should be happy about that. She said you want the SYS under 180, and his average is, so just check him again, next time.
I had them do a urinalysis, so they can check for casts, again. And, I said I wanted to know what his USG was (although with all the peeing from the high BGs, they're bound to be dilute). They took him in the back room to do it by the needle (I don't know the name for that). She will call me back with those results, and said I shouldn't worry about casts, but I'll ask more when she calls me back.
She did not hear a heart murmur.
She said I could bring him back for a fasting blood test to check for his cobalamin, which I'd like to do, and she can do another potassium check then, too. I was worried about potassium because of his twitching, and sometimes when he's resting he has his head bent like his neck doesn't hold his head up well but not all the time, and the muscle wasting in his back end. She watched him walk, and did what looked like a good thorough exam.
And, basically thinks it's all diabetes related. That the twitching and muscle wasting in the hind end and sometimes head bent is from neuropathy. I told her he gets his B12s (cyanocobalamin weekly and methylcobalamin daily). So, I asked for him to be tested for cobalamin, but it's a fasting test, so I'll have to bring him back someday.
The only thing bad, was that she wants me to try to flatten him out with food. I don't know how I would be able to do that when I work all day, because I'm not sure when he eats or if he eats sometimes when I'm gone. And, she said I should give him wet food at shot times and leave dry food out for during the day as it may smooth out his BGs and because the effect of the dry last longer maybe he won't have the dives and bounces. I don't know. I'm about to try it. I've tried for 8 years to get him to bounce less.
Our vet appointment was at +3 and J.D. was 128 when we got there. When we returned home at a little after +4.25 he was 92. He just ate his 3rd Breffis and is currantly snoozing on the deck.
