Thread about hospital visit for anal gland rupture: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/blood-gushing-from-back-end.292360/

I had just started her on 4 units last night but the hospital is thinking to drop her to 3.5 because as her anal gland issue heals and she feels better (plus she had lost weight), she probably won't need as much insulin. But in the meanwhile her glucose has been sky high. She did experience a big drop at the hospital, though, going from 388 at home to I think 288 there after only about 2 hours. I kind of feel like she still needs the 4 units, though...

I would ignore that advice. As you can see his bg is too high. If that changes then you would decrease. Your testing will dictate that. If you were not testing that advice might make sense.

Glucose now 504. Haven't seen her that high in ages. Tested negative for ketones. Appetite still not normal.
I had given the 3.5 before receiving everybody's replies.
I'm concerned why her BG is so high. Is it because she's not receiving enough insulin or/and because of what's going on with the anal glands? I guess the hospital is worried about her crashing as things heal so they want less insulin on board, but I'm worried about DKA.

He won’t crash because you are testing and if he gets too low you will intervene with hc. He could be high from the anal gland issue but also DM dry is very high in carbs.

I think the people on the forum are right, the cad is fatal I went through it with sinver and I would not want it to happen again ... as they say you can always raise your glucose with foods in high carbohydrate content.

Problem is, she's not eating normally so I may not be able to control anything food-wise. But I'm still leaning towards going back to 4 units.

I guess you know that if it is low you can try with honey, they also sell some envelopes for cats that they like a lot like candy that also carry a lot of sugar and is easy to eat most cats like it. As I am from Spain I can't recommend you where to buy them but I imagine that in your country there will also be similar things ... mine also cost me to try a lot of food to be able to stabilize it a little since I couldn't find food that he liked.
