Recap of yesterday's #s:

AMPS 139, 1.25u, 40g Evo 95% C&T
+1 - 37g Evo 95% C&T, Cosequin
+2.5 65
+9 135
PMPS 117, 1.25u, 40g Evo 95% C&T, Zobaline
+1 - 37g Evo 95% C&T, Cosequin

Can pain cause #s to rise, and is there a long term ointment that can be put in her ear as to pilling her? If so, what is the medication? If there is no ointment medication, would 1/4 of a 81mg low dose aspirin be ok for me to give to her? If so, can it be given twice a day without harm to her body?

Other than raising her dose at this time, I'm beginning to think that she's in pain. I give her Cosequin 2x/day, and Zobaline 1x/day. She's walking stiffly most of the time, except when it's food time, and her pace picks up some more. She doesn't protest when I pick her up, and am always careful in doing so. Stopped by the vet's yesterday to inquire, but she's on vacation until Wednesday. I'll be calling her then.

Thank you.

Sending tons of healing vines, positive thoughts, and prayers to whoever needs them.

MY WISH: For God to help heal the broken hearts of those who lost a beloved pet and/or human... For God to help those ailing make a full and speedy recovery... For everyone, including Blackie, to have better #s... For everyone, including Blackie to be OTJ.

Re: Pain Question; 07/20 Blackie AMPS 161

I'm sorry to hear Blackie is feeling sore. Do not give aspirin to cats. My Neko has arthritis and she is getting buprenorphine (bupe) long term. She has also started a series of acupuncture treatments that seem to be helping her pain. Her dose has gone down .5U since we started acupuncture. The bupe is also helping her feel better because she purrs more now. Some other kitties here are on gabapentin for pain. It's a bit ECID. You should talk to your vet about what they suggest for medications. But, do say no to Metacam - it's often suggested by vets but too many cats have liver issues with Metacam.

Ok, thank you, Wendy. She may be waiting until Wednesday for pain meds. I'm pretty sure that the pain is causing her #s to rise. Hate diabetes.

Is the Bupe in pill form, or a cream that you rub onto the hairless part of the ear?

Re: Pain Question; 07/20 Blackie AMPS 161

No aspirin. Many years ago I someone who lived in my building had her cats' teeth cleaned. She thought they might be in pain and gave them aspirin. She lost both of them!! I asked the same question about pain last week. I hope you figure it out for Blackie.

Re: Pain Question; 07/20 Blackie AMPS 161

That's the other thing that Elise brings up... Has your vet done a good exam of Blackie's teeth lately? Bad gingivitis can also cause a lot of pain. Just imagine the last time you had a toothache. Or, maybe that's already been considered and looked at?

I will pray today that you find the true cause of Blackie's pain, and that you swiftly find the best solution to it, treating her right away to end or at least ease her physical suffering. ;-)

Re: Pain Question; 07/20 Blackie AMPS 161

I'm sorry Blackie seems to be in some pain. I hope you and your vet can find something to help her feel better. I believe pain can make BGs higher.

Re: Pain Question; 07/20 Blackie AMPS 161

Blackie has had a physical before her operation earlier this year. The vet would've told me about her teeth at the time if there was an issue. This is a mobility pain, like arthritis. I won't give her any aspirin, and will await the vet's decision on pain relief. Thank you. I think I can give her the bupe if it comes in liquid form. I know that Blackie was given some pain relief ointment that I rubbed on her ear after her surgery. I'm not sure if that can be given long term or not, nor do I recall what it was called.

Re: Pain Question; 07/20 Blackie AMPS 161

FYI, it is possible to give a cat low dose aspirin - my vet prescribed it for Minka when we were concerned about her heart. We stopped it when we found out the issues she was having were not heart-related. I wouldn't give it without talking to the vet first, though.

Sending healing vines for Blackie.

PMPS 171, f1.25u, 40g Evo 95% C&T, Zobaline (dose increased to 1.25u fat)

Thanks, guys. I'll be making an appointment to see the vet this Wednesday to discuss this with her. Blackie will be staying home.
