Hello Again. I started ( today) testing Woody with a glucose meter -- ( rather than using the libre sensor) I only took two tests ( so far today) "because" he's like a bloody wild bobcat when I do the ear prick. Last night I sustained some deep cuts from trying ( alone) I have my husband holding him today ( which is much better) he's almost hypo at 5pm PST read -- I gave him a good dose of fat gravy food and a small syringe of karo syrup. He was showing "LO" a few days ago over the weekend with the sensor -

My Question is this --- I have had him between 5.25 and 5.50 ( refer to SS) should I be taking him back down to 5U's now? He's been baking in the sun for the last some days ( super hot here) I thought he was acting "loggy" because of the heat 2 day, but it's because of his sugar dropping --- I'll test him at 7pm ( his pm dose time) and see what I get --

and as a last little note -- when I prick the outer part of his ear ( watched a gallon of how to videos') and all the images you ladies have provided -- when I prick the ear from the top of his ear (fur side0 is it supposed to pooling under/or inside the ear where i poked? that's where I am getting the blood onto the strip from "under" where I poked from the top. I am not jabbing him, rather gently pushing the lancet really quick like a prick.

I'm using the verio flex BG monitor which uses 30 G needles ( of which I can barely see the darn tip of the needle as it's so darn thin) Okay, as always THANKS,

okay, thanks,

When you poke the outside of the ear the blood should appear there where the fur is
@Mimik

Here is a video that a member did testing her cat. Ignore the coding . she's using a pet meter
How to test your cat's blood sugar

Testing
Always aim for the sweet spot warm the ears up first, you can put rice in a sock and put it in the microwave, test it on the inside of your wrist to be sure it's not to hot, like you would test a babies bottle. You can fill a pill bottle with warm water and roll it on the ears also.Just keep rubbing the ears with your fingers to warm them up

6. As the ears get used to bleeding and grow more capilares, it gets easier to get the amount of blood you need on the first try. If he won’t stand still, you can get the blood onto a clean finger nail and test from there.
When you do get some blood you can try milking the ear.
Get you finger and gently push up toward the blood , more will appear
You will put the cotton round behind his ear in case you poke your finger, after you are done testing you will fold the cotton round over his ear to stop the bleeding , press gently for about 10 or 20 seconds until it stops
Get 26 or 28 gauge lancets
A lot of us use the lancets to test freehand not the lancing device
I find it better to see where I'm aiming
Look at the lancet under a light and you will see one side is curved upward, that's the side you want to poke with

Try putting a thin layer of Vaseline on the ear so the blood will bead up
