I managed to get thru to the vet on Monday, she said that all the blood test results they analyzed inhouse are in normal range, urea and creatinine slightly elevated but she said it might be a random case considering his age- she advised to repeat the test in 3 months to make sure it is nothing chronic. The liver parameters seem to be in order so she is not suspecting any issues there.

I did not manage to get the lab results yet (vet is way too busy :( ), but if those will be ok as well we will be able to schedule a dental cleaning (again depending on the vet schedule :( ). Hope to get all the results in e-mail as well asap but its the end of the day and the vet didn't give us any more information.

Chico's BG keeps on creeping up :( Should we wait for the dental to see if it would improve his BG or should we just start shooting insulin? If giving insulin, what dose should we start with?

Hi Marina. I was just catching up on your last three posts about Chico. I’m sorry you have been going through this. It sounds like the vet thought that Chico’s labs were okay to do a dental procedure. I’m glad his liver enzymes were normal. That’s a relief. I have had cats ultrasounded before and been told their livers looked hyperechoic or moth eaten in appearance, and it really ended up being okay. I usually will put my cats on a supplement for their liver health if there’s any question. I use Denamarin. Anyway, I hope you can get Chico scheduled for the dental soon, if that’s what the vet thinks he needs.

Thank you Suzanne for the liver supplement, i will look into it.
I am still waiting for one result to see if we can get the dental but my worry is that this vet is so overloaded that she doesn’t really have the time to think about what Chico needs, but maybe that’s just my paranoia :blackeye: i will hopefully have more information today though
 
So the ultrasound showed nothing wrong? No inflammation of the intestinal loops? Only the vet said that there was something about the liver? Did they do a urinalysis on Chico?

Yes, only the liver. I asked for the ultrasound specifically for the intestines but she confirmed they looked calm.
By urinalysis do you mean urine test? she asked about it at some point but we somehow didn't pull it thru. How can i take the urine sample? The vet was mentioning some special sand but that is exactly what i didn't pull thru, i forgot to ask for it :banghead: what can they analyze in the urine?
 
Well, in addition to checking for any signs of a urinary tract infection, it can be a good indicator or kidney function - to see how his kidneys are doing. I have had cats who showed no sign of a urinary tract infection that did have a lot of bacteria in there when the urine was examined under a microscope. It’s just another important test to check when doing a health check up.

The vet was probably referring to this litter that is non absorbent. You put it in a clean litter box and then the cat goes in it and you pour some off into a cup. Some people just do a "free catch" while the cat is going in the litter box. I guess if you can catch them in the act, you can try that. The vet could give you a specimen cup, I'm sure.
