Oh did I just got the scare of my life! Hercs went up in the sky last night! So today I thought I would give his ears a chance to calm down. Went to meassure at +6 and got 32! Checked again, the same! cue to drastic honey, Hc, etc. He got very upset with the honey. After he ate, 30 seconds after, I started thinking and decided to checkl with the at2. It read 180.....
Question: could this already be the honey talking? or is my usual monitor bonkers?
I decided it was the latter, but he is now throwing up....
Anyone can reassure me he will be fine?

Many thanks!

Hi. I’m a but puzzled. The honey does bring them up quickly and wears off quickly. You got a second test that was the same. I think it was likely low.

Gosh! 30 is ridiculously low any day, but specially when starts with 378. Is there something else wrong with him. Does he require any attention for the low numbers beside honey?

There are many cats here that do that regularly. There’s nothing wrong with him. Test again in 20-30 after honey as it leaves quickly. Hc food sticks with them longer. So at first honey was good because you wanted it to act fast. Now if there’s another drop give hc food.

He threw up the HC I gave him with honey at +6. I gave him a little bit of LC to see if he keeps it down, I'll give some more in half an hour.

I don't know how to manage him at the moment. Some of his number are getting very high, but he still dive down like crazy every now on then in this dose? I guess I keep at this dose ? So confused...

yes. When I first tested it gave me 32, and the I repeated in the other ear and gave me 30. So I tried give him honey and food. He didn't take it imediatly. So I then, gave him some Hc which he ate. The I finally calmed down and considered something might have been wrong with the meter, so I pull him off as he finished eating HC and tested him with at2, which gave me 180.

I then went back to test the human meter again with my blood, which seemed to work. 30 minutes after the at2 reading of 180, I measured him with both meter simultaneously, and they gave me comparable measures, so I guess the first two measures were right? If nothing else the 180 on the at2 is the odd reading...

What % carbs do you usually feed? I’m thinking he might need to eat higher carbs so he can continue to get the insulin he needs and flatten out.

I have been trying 4% carb the last 4 days. He is usually bellow 2%. I have ordered 7% to try out. It will arrive this week. I can see that can balance things a bit.

Until I get that to try, should I keep with this dose, you think?

You definitely need more carbs and mixing works. Some with food allergies add syrup to the lc food they feed. It just takes some experimenting to figure out how much to add to make mc and lc. You can add mc food so don’t need that.

I think 7-9% is worth a try. You might even need a little higher up to 14%.

I have been using calipers, which I estimate as 0.12U.
Here is a picture of what looks like. The plunger is tyoically just under the line for zero

Is it possible that he is still running high because he's overdosed? Just a thought...

A lot of my BD's had about 1/3 of a unit under the zero line and Neko's dose was similarly under that zero line.

Is it possible that he is still running high because he's overdosed?
Nope. Karen does lots of testing, reductions have been caught and given. Therefore, the dose is where it should be. A cat that looks like it's ready for the zero dose is primarily all green with possibly a very rare touch of blue. Hercules body is still getting ready to the concept of green. Hence the suggestions to feed a little higher carb food so he can stay on some insulin.
