Sending Appy vine for Furball. These cats seem to want to worry their beans. I hope she slides down for you today.

Hi Carla.

Glad to hear she ate something. Furball, eat your foods! You need them to stay good and strong. Time to get off the trampoline, please.

Hope you're having a good day at tbp, Carla.

I got to come home early today because of the Holiday. I was surprised to catch that 117.

I was wondering if Cerenia can cause a cat to act skittish. Furball seems a little off. My mom visited the kitties while I was at work and said Furball acted scared of her and wouldn't let her pet her. She was looking all big eyed at me like she wanted to run when I got home. It's not her normal behavior. She is a love bug.

Cerenia is an antihistamine, so I suppose it can cause that reaction in a cat. ECID. I know in people some say antihistamines make then sleepy, and others say it wires them. No reason to assume that wouldn't happen in a cat. Have you given her Cerenia before?

Glad to see she snuck down to the blue floor. Guess she wanted to surprise you when you got home! Either that, or she planned to head back up before you got back and not tell you she'd been there!

Either she's being really bouncy or the 117 was a bad test. I did have trouble getting her ear to bleed, but I didn't think to get a 2nd test. She ate good this evening.

Actually, cerenia is an anti-vomiting drug, not an antihistamine. Cypro is an antihistamine, though. I think Cerenia does make Trix feel a little wonky at times, but not always. For her, it seems to affect her appy and make her a bit sleepy sometimes. How much did you give her? I would call your vet since Furball's reaction does seem a little unusual.

I gave her 1/4 of a tablet. She's been getting it daily since Monday. The instructions the vet gave me say to give a whole tablet daily, but I thought that was way too much. I didn't give her any tonight. She's eating good and I have a 4 day weekend so I can see if she still eats once it's out of her system. She was fine this evening. Maybe I just surprised her when I came home early today. I can't say what happened when my mom was here since I didn't see it.

What was the strength of the tablet? Trix gets 4mg - 1/4 of a 16mg tablet. Depending on the strength, a whole tablet does sound like a lot - as far as I know 16mg is the lowest strength it comes in. I'm glad she seems OK now. Sometimes the do get spooked for whatever reason and it sticks with them for a bit. My GA civvie Mario got spooked once when a towel fell into his water bowl - he was skittish for quite a while after that!!

They are 16 mg tablets. If I give her the Cerenia again and she has this reaction, I'll call the vet. I don't think it's necessary now. Thanks for your help.

Ooops, you're right, Amy. I was thinking of Cypro. Also, my brother's vet had prescribed benadryl for motion sickness, so maybe that also made me think Cerenia was an antihistamine.

I agree that a whole tablet is too much. Our vet prescribes 1/4 tablet, too. I'm glad Furball is feeling better, Carla. Sending vines.

Do you have fireworks going on in your neighborhood? That traumatizes Tiger! Sending appy vines for Furball, and comfort vines for you! Glad you got home early too!

Gooodness I'm glad you didn't listen to your vet and give the whole 16mg tablet! I give 1/4 of the tablet but on good days I cut that in half. I hope Furball continues to eat and feel good!

There are a couple of neighbors that always buy fireworks and shoot them off on the 4th. Last year it was raining on the 4th and I thought they weren't going to shoot them off, but they did the next night. I hope it doesn't rain this year so I can get them over with. Baby, Simba and Kitty are terrified of the fireworks. MC and Furball get scared on the really loud ones.

Carla, I am really close with my next door neighbor, and they know how bad the fireworks freak out not only the cats but the dogs as well. And they still buy them and will shoot them off in the driveway until the wee hours of the morning. Last year, we actually called security for the complex on them.

Carla :bighug:
Sending appy vines to Furball. I hope the fireworks are not too bad. I hate them. You can't buy them here unless you go to another state. Instead they have big public displays of fireworks. There have been too many kids injured with them.

Bron, here they are actually illegal to shoot off unless you are using them to scare away birds from farms or fish hatcheries. But they can be sold without any verification of the aforementioned. So....I get them going from the end of June until the middle of July, and that is if I am lucky. I have actually called the neighborhood security before, and they do nothing.

I was wondering about the fireworks, too. We've got people shooting them off tonight. o_O Hope Furball gets back to her sweet, easy going self.
