This morning Zener's BG was 385. This morning starts his 8th cycle at 1.25 u and is 72 hours post-bounce. Just wanted advice on whether to stay at this level and if so for approximately how long.

06/28/11 Alpha Trak
AMPS 385

He is eating almost normally since getting the fortiflora. Last night he had an episode of incontinence when scratching vigorously on his scratching pad but we have "piddle pad" and it is no big drama. This has happened a few times since his diagnosis but all is good with his kidneys.

Thanks again for all the help!

Here's where we are at +6 today.

06/28/11 Alpha Trak
AMPS 385
+3 319
+6 313

Zener is not having any trouble eating today and the fortiflora really helped. I am glad to be able to put the cypro away and not have to give the poor guy a pill!

How far are you from PMPS?

I think a 0.25u increase is fine UNLESS Zener keeps dropping and is lower at PMPS. If that's the case, please post.

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's AMPS 385:+3 319;+6 313;+10 302 ATrak

Will do, thanks!

Here's where we are today so far at +10:
06/28/11 Alpha Trak
AMPS 385
+3 319
+6 313
+10 302

We are two hours away from his PMPS, at 8 pm MST (or 8 pm PDT, Arizona does not go on daylight savings time, can be very confusing!).I will check his PMPS and post with "help" if he keeps dropping. If he stays about the same, then should I go ahead and increase by 0.25 back up to 1.50 ? I will post his values on his SS regardless. Thanks so much!

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's AMPS 385:+3 319;+6 313 ATrak Dose advic

that's what I would do - go back up to 1.5 if he is still pink at PMPS. If he is lower then please post first just to be sure. Good luck!

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's AMPS 385:+3 319;+6 313; +10 302 ATrak

Thanks Libby, that's what I will do. I will post with "help" if he is still going down. And will record on his SS regardless.

We'll keep our whiskers crossed! Thanks so much!

post if you need help...

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's AMPS 385:+3 319;+6 313; +10 302 ATrak

Thanks so much Jill! I'll be testing him in about 20 minutes and will post.

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's PMPS 308 ATrak

And I am so grateful that you all are here!

06/28/11 Alpha Trak
AMPS 385
+3 319
+6 313
+10 302
PMPS 308

So, not much change at the PMPS, so I shall move up to 1.5u. What are the most important BG values for me to get tonight with the dose change?

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's PMPS 308 ATrak

Okay, I can get both if necessary. I am a little nervous since he went kind of low before. But he seems so much more stable now!

He is happily eating his wet food and hardly moved a whisker when I got him the shot.

Thanks so much!

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's PMPS 308 ATrak

i don't think it's necessary to get both. i'd probably get a +3. if there's a substantial drop by +3, it'll be a red flag for you. you'll know he might drop lower. if that's the case, you may have to set an alarm to get up for spot checks.

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's PMPS 308 ATrak

Alright, that's the plan. I'll get a +3 and if there is a substantial drop, then I'll set my alarm and check again. I have a hypo kit ready and so far semi soft treats have done the trick. I've only once had to use the karo and that was when we first started on Humulin N before I was home testing.

What should I look for as a substantial drop? Before he dropped down in the low 90s and we are using the Alpha Trak.

Thanks again!!

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's PMPS 308 ATrak

if he drops anything around 100 points or more i'd be ready to monitor more carefully.
if you see that much of a drop, go ahead and feed some higher carb food in order to slow things down. since you're using the alphatrak and he has CH, we'd like to see his nadirs run in the 110 - 150 130 - 180(AT) range.

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's PMPS 308 ATrak

Thanks for this. I've written these values on his printed BG spread sheet where I keep track of all sorts of things, like weight, urination, drinking and such. This way it's always right in front of me, in case I momentarily lose my focus, like when there is a big BG drop! I will get a +3 and post on his SS.

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's PMPS 308 ATrak

hi anne - i'm in oregon and will be up late tonight - at least another 2.5 or 3 hours. i'll check in with you and if you need any help i'll be around.

how much experience have you had with zener dropping low?

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's PMPS 308 ATrak

anne, i revised the target range for nadirs above to read:

"we'd like to see his nadirs run in the 130 - 180(AlphaTrak) range".

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's PMPS 308 ATrak

Hi Anne, I just wanted to stop by and say hello. You're doing great job with Zener and getting a lot of good advice.

Hi Julie, thanks for your help! I am in Flagstaff Arizona and on the same time as you are right now since AZ does not do daylight savings time. I'll be getting Zener's +3 BG at 11 pm and will post it on his SS and here right away.

Not too much. He was on Humulin N at first and all over the place. He had a +6 of 70 in mid May while I was away and my vet tech was kitty/house sitting. He didn't have any hypo symptoms then. He also has dropped to 81 about two weeks ago shortly after switching to Lantus when we were on 3u in the morning (and a smaller dose at night). He also was not eating very well then. He was not symptomatic but I gave him some semi soft treats and his BG started rising into the low 100s within an hour. When I found the message board and Jill started helping me right away, we went to 1.5 BID and on his 3rd cycle BG dropped into the 90s. I gave him semi soft treats and it started coming back up. Because he has cerebellar hypoplasia, it's hard to tell what are symptoms and what is his normal way of moving. It is mid CH but he occasionally has mild head tremors and his muscle tone is very floppy. We also are using an Alpha Trak meter, so these numbers were even lower than what I knew at the time.

Thanks again for being there, and I'll post shortly after 11 pm.

Thanks Jill, I've got that on my written in our log book - in BIG PRINT, so perhaps I won't forget, that's why I write things down these days!

Hello Ann without an e, thanks for stopping by and saying hello! It is so helpful and reassuring to have all the support from this group. And thanks for the kind words about the job Zener and I are doing. You are so right, the advice here is fantastic. We were floundering before I found the FDMB.

Re: 06/28/11 Zener's PMPS 308 ATrak

ok, i'll check back with you at 11 - my dad's widow is just leaving so i gotta go now but i did read what you wrote! back in a while.

All okay here. +3 BG up a little.

He ate quite a bit post shot and a small meal again about 30 minutes before the +3 BG test. I think I can turn in now, will check on the big guy during the night. I almost always wake up once during the night.

glad to hear it!

my middle name is anne with an e, too. it sounds WAY different in my head than ann without an e.

just a little end of the day crazy trivia

Thanks Jill and Julie, I'm off to sleep and Zener has already beat me to the bed!

Julie, I feel very incomplete without my "e" and I agree, it does sound different without an "e". I never realized that until I started studying German and they do indeed pronounce "Ann" and "Anne" differently!

Thanks for the end of the evening trivia, a good laugh is quite necessary during this process! I'll post Zener's BG numbers tomorrow morning and throughout the day. It's a good thing I am off from teaching during the summer, makes getting home for doing the testing much less stressful. Thanks again!

I-)
