Today both is good and sucks! The good part is Magellan is more flat and slowly working his insulin paws crossed. The suck is I took Magellan in the vet again today problems are snotty nose that is light green and crusty. That a a pronounced rattle when he breaths, I went in expecting another round of antibiotics and perhaps some iv fluids. As with this heat he really doesn't want to do anything but lay on the bathroom floor. What I got instead as a lecture on how I was a selfish person 1, wanting Magellan to continue living (he does have other than the above issues a good quality of life) 2, Daring to self diagnose Magellan's medical problems. When she learned he was an uncontrolled diabetic and was not under vet care for it. She damn near threw me and him out of the office! "how dare I think I know more than the vets about Magellan's diabetes and that I was taking his life in my own hands and I was irresponsible. She would not listen or even hear what I have been doing nor how I had gotten him off insulin for 5 years. So right now I am an emotional wreck with a strong urge to take Jim's 38 and teach her the meaning of pain! But I will not because if I do who will take care of my boys??

Hello giving Magellan honey and HC gravy to keep him from going into reduction areas. Ie steer the kitty cat

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. I hope the vet gave you something to help Magellan's runny nose. If not, you can get some regular Zyrtec and give 1/4 of a 10 mg table twice a day. Also steam from the shower or a vaporizer can help. I hope Magellan comes up for you. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

No I got nothing and she had the gall to try and give me a bill!? told her that if she wanted money they give a service other and verbal and emotional abuse!

Julia, so sorry, I was beat and was dead to the world this afternoon. What is the carb% of the regular food you feed Magellan? I am wondering if you want to try feeding higher carb like 8-9% to keep Magellan on insulin for longer. His numbers are loooking very good in the last month. If we can prevent those limes, we may be able to avoid the yellows too.

Booma you rock.. everyone has those days ok?? his primary food carb floats between 3 and 5.. Right now changing that is going to be challenging as due to heat he is off his feed a lot of the time. I will work on wrapping my head around the idea and see what floats to the surface. I would love to avoid the limes and thus the lemons as well.. lemon and lime.. ha, ha,, not

You can mix MC and LC to get higher carb LC. If he likes his MC, that may also entice him to eat :)

If Magellan is congested, it's possible he's not eating because he can't smell the food? Have you tried L Lysine? I've seen a lot of people here recommend steam as well.

And looks like you need a new vet. All of us here know how much vets know about FD!

Yes he likes his med carb, and yes he is being givin L lysine 2x a day. His nose is less stuffy or at least less snotty but that could have something to do with the 2x a day sponge bath that he has been getting to keep him cool. As for the new vet it will be challenging, looks as if Magellan when he does see the vet will have to be scheduled visits as my transportation is lift and they need at least 24 hrs heads up to schedule the rides.
