Hello,

Leo started Lantus insulin using 1 ml needle attached syringes, after 2 weeks I received the 0,5 ml syringes, to make sure I give same dose I pulled the one unit in the 1 ml syringe then emptied it in a container then pulled what was in the container in the 0,5 ml syringe and that dose looked a bit over the 1 ui line so was supposed to be 1.25 ui... although I kept writing 1 ui in the sheet, i seen it’s advised to increase with 0.25 ui ... so I gave him 1.5 ui considering he received the 1.25 ui before ... it’s all at the beginning and we had this mess with the syringes change and all the crazy recommendations from vets so this is the situation... today I gave him 1.5 ui and his blood sugar fall to 129, is this dose too much ?

Good Morning What brand of syringes are you using? It's kinda hard to follow your comments...maybe it's just me?

Also, I would highly recommend calipers so that you get a consistent dose - it's very important with Lantus to be consistent and especially important when you're changing the dose... Here is the info on the calipers I use: https://www.harborfreight.com/hand-...rs-micrometer/4-in-digital-caliper-63710.html

There's a video/help here on the forum on how to use them and if you need more help just ask. Lots of people use them and can help you.

Hi Sue,

what can I do to make it easier to follow my comments ? What makes it hard to follow ?
I’m using Bd syringes ... 0,5 ml.... I received yesterday afternoon the 0,3 ml syringes but I didn’t swiched them yet cause of the dosing issues
I attached a pic with how the 1.5 ui dose looks in the 0,5 ml syringes that I started to give him since yesterday morning

thank you for the link but I can’t see it properly.. also I’m in Easter. Europe and not sure that is available here and without seeing what is about I don’t know what to look for ... is this similar to what you suggested ? https://www.coleter.ro/hobby-si-gar...MIz4jov96h6gIVEI4YCh23lwNDEAQYAyABEgKnaPD_BwE

Hi there, I see the calipers that you posted, however there is no locking mechanism on the top. But they're close. See the little knob on top in the picture of the one's I sent you. See if you can locate a calipers with that little knob on the top. It locks in the digital number once you've set it..otherwise you'll have to reset it every time and that's not what you'll want to do.

I'd like to suggest that you add the '?' mark to the front of your title today - to do that click on 'Edit' underneath the title area and locate the drop down menu, select '?' and add that - then at the end of your title add 'Need Help with Dosing/Syringes' - that'll attract more attention for experienced members - perhaps some in Europe will jump on to assist as well. Let's see if we can get some answers for you :)

Hi,
I make the title changes, thanks for the tips.
Also Leo’s blood sugar at +3 was 129 and I feed him ff low carb pate but at +4 was 96, so I got a bit scared as I read that Lantus nadir can happen between 4-6 hours so I fed him some high carbs food to avoid him dropping lower than this ... it’s first time I see a number under 100 with him ... so I assume 1.5 ui is too much ...

Actually that's a beautiful number! He's hitting is nadir...and he may surf for several hours...the goal here is to get kitty to stay between 50-100...so he was just hitting the 'lagoon' (green numbers)...which is exactly where we want them to be.

Unfortunately the high carb foods now will bump him back up and out of the lagoon...and his next reading most likely will be higher..however a food bump may last only for an hour or two...so why don't you hold off on feeding him and test him again in an hour or two and see if he drops back down.

I know that the first time you see those green numbers is kinda scary but that's right where you want him to be...and getting there mid-cycle is perfect. I'd say this may well be the perfect dose - because it's doing exactly what you want it to do.

Are you going to be able to monitor the rest of the day? Can you monitor tonight? If he goes to the lagoon during the day, he will most likely do it again at night, unless he goes to the bounce -often when kitties hit their lowest number they will bounce to higher numbers - it's a normal response...and they will come back down.

It might be a good idea to study some of the other kitties' spreadsheets to see what's going on with them...just keep in mind every cat is different, but the overall goal is to get them into the green all the time...and that's the road to remission.

Excellent job on the title revisions!!:joyful:

Btw, were you advised to go to 1.5 rather than 1.25? We usually increase by .25 increments...just to be safe...I'm not on the board a lot during the week because of my crazy job...but just wondered...apologies if this has already been covered previously and I missed it...

Oh.. so I got scared too early ...will continue to watch him and keep testing ... he seemed very well at 96 sleeping lazy stretching but I got stressed with what if he drops more ?! Also wondering .. how high will he bounce after.. he has days when he reached 150 and then bounced to 500 so .. is there any way to avoid the bounce ?
Well I read and was advised to rise with 0.25 ui.. I also showed and explained that due the syringe issue that my 1 ui dose in 1 ml syringe looked like 1.25 ui in the other 0,5 ml syringe and he already got the 1.25 ui for more than a week and cause he jumped back in 400 numbers I raised to 1.5 ui ...
