06/27/202 - GIDEON BLUE - A Good day

My fur boy is trying to stabilize from his "Wonkiness" post increasing his Lantus from 1.5 units to 2 units BID two days ago Folks her have been a tremendous support. This morning his AMPS = 276, then at +6 he was 137. I did not know which direction he was going at this point, though could have held food and retested. He ate some food, then I retested at +8, and he was 212. I would consider that a nice rise of 75 in 2 hours with food. My goal is to keep him in the BLUE and YELLOW range, and not strive for GREEN, which is where my non-diabetic cats hover. Every day is different with a lot of variables that go in the mix like timing of food, what food, and how much food, as well as activity level. I am thankful his weight has been consistently between 11 pounds 4 oz to 11 pounds 5 oz for the past month. Thank you all for helping us weave our way through this and hoping to achieve some level of stabilization, and perhaps even remission some day.

This is good news. When you post would you please add AMPS### and later PMPS###.

One step at a time. Right now blue is a good goal. Once stable you can try for green and remission. You want to keep him under renal threshold at the very least eventually. That’s where he doesn’t spill glucose into his urine.

So, I should always put AMPS### or PMPS### in the title of my post. Is that what you are saying .....to always post the actual blood sugar number for that day in the title?
Being a real newbie to having a kitty with diabetes was a bit overwhelming. I tried to read and absorb what I could. Is there a one page "cheat sheet" with just the most important things that folks need to understand and remember without getting them into the weeds? Since I just have been immersed in this, I certainly can understand how newbies get overwhelmed and confused. Even knowing the order of test, feed and shoot, can be mixed up. For those who live, eat and breath this stuff, it may come natural/easy, but that is not true for everyone. I thank you all for your patience, and if I ask the same question over again, thank you for taking the time to answer it once again. Your experience and knowledge is invaluable to us newbies. Have a great day!

Hi there! It is very confusing, but it does get better over time, really. If you look at the top of the Lantus forum, the sticky notes have a lot of helpful info. Marie just posted a new one a couple of days ago that lays out how to format your title and signature lines. Post title should be month/day, kitty’s name, AMPS ###, and then any subsequent test numbers. You can add other text if you need to, but that’s the basic format. I’ve been at this for six months, and I still go back to the sticky notes to refresh my memory on testing and dosing. Ask lots of questions, too. There’s always someone willing to help. :)
