J.D. is in his bounce now.

We went for a very very quick walk this morning, as it is cold outside (nice :-D ). J.D. ate his 1st Breffis and got his meds. and is laying in his little kitty bed all snuggled up with Ginger.

I think I have a plan now for these calipers: Last night, while I was struggling to measure a dose, my DBF said don't you know what you're doing? and I said no. He said well you're using the calipers, don't you know what number you're supposed to measure to? and I said no, all the syringes are different  .
So far, I have given him 1.40mm, 0.86mm, and 1.20mm. So I added them all together and divided by 3 and the average is 1.15mm and that's what the dose is going to be.
Of course when I measured out the insulin to the 0.50 unit mark this morning, the 1.15mm is at the 0.50 mark and he's supposed to be getting a s0.50, but we'll see how it goes. I have to be consistant somehow.
Also, when I squeezed out that pin head sized drop, it still measured 1.15mm, so I am guessing the syringe has a vacumm like action where after you press the plunger to get that teeny bit out, when you relax the pressure off the plunger it kind of goes back to where it was.

Anyway, hope J.D. comes down nice and easy, today, and everyone has a good day.

I am wishing the best of luck for Deb's Ali's surgery today.

Sending (gentle) bounce clearing vines for J.D. and scritches for both your little furries

Hi guys .. oh J.D. .. please come down from there! I'm glad you figured out some way to be consistent with his dose .. those tiny doses can be so hard to measure .. I could be wrong but I thought on FB Deb said ali might not be having surgery today, as now they are going to to an ultrasound instead .. but I might have mis read that .. anyways, keeping them in my thoughts for sure!

Oh sweet J.D., please come down from up there. I think it sounds like a good starting point to figuring out how to work this dose. I struggle sometime with my large dose--don't know what I'll do if we ever come down from there.

We're sending lower level vines to J.D.! Hope you're having a good day also!

I did the caliper thing when Simon was micro-dosing. I was using Relion syringes. When I talked about this issue with Marje, she couldn't measure the same way on her syringe. What I did was measure a consistent height with the calipers, ignoring the pre-printed lines. Based on my syringe, there was a place on the hub where I put one point of the caliper each time; then I measured the height of the insulin. I decided from one dose what I was going to call a .25 or whatever, and then just started subtracting fractions of a millimeter as we shaved. Maybe that helps. Send me a pm if you want and I can send you a pic of how I measured. What syringes do you use?

p.s. Oh yes, I wanted to ask. . .Does J.D. go on the walk WITH you?

p.p.s. Yes, cold does sound NICE!

Hi Kim, I sent you a PM asking for the picture, because I do use the ReliOn syringes.
Tonight, I tried what you said you did and laid the top calipers piece on the lip of the syringe and I think I gave him too much. I measured out 2.00mm and that looked like 0.50 and I guess I got frustrated or something, because I gave him that dose. He was on f0.50 (just a hair of the mark showing above the plunger) when he went into the 30s the other day and I had to give him a lot of HC to get him up. He really should get more than the fat off the dose, I think.

ETA: Yes, J.D. and Ginger go on walks with me. They like it best in the middle of the night, when no humans are around. I used to take them both out with leashes. Lately, it's only Ginger that has a leash on, because she caught a baby bird the other day off the leash.
I guess I'll practice some more  It's just so tiny. Tomorrow, I have to try to give him a s0.50.
Thanks for offering to help me understand. It's hard not to look at those marks. I keep seeing the marks and seeing that it's still at the 0.50 mark. Once I figure out the calipers number, I think I'll be okay.

Actually...I do it as Kim said except my reference point is different on the MJ syringes. But I never vary the caliper measurement from syringe to syringe. Each dose has an associated caliper measurement and it doesn't matter where the markings on the syringe are...I ignore them like Kim. If I'm drawing a .75u, it is always 1.16 mm on my calipers.

Well, I'm just about ready to give up.
If I try to line the bottom of the top piece of the calipers up the the bottom of the lip, then 1.16 is .50 on my syringes.
And then I try to measure a s0.50 and it measures the same. Wait 1.00mm looks kind of like a s0.50, do you think that would be okay? I finally found what I thought was a "perfect" syringe (as far as ReliOns go  ), the zero line is pretty close to the top of the syringe. I have it filled with water. Maybe, I'll go with 1.00mm from now on.
