This morning - a disappointing yellow, and a fairly high one.
I thought about increasing his dose BUT:

1) he did have his budesonide last night and he may be higher the day after his alternating dose
2) his nadirs have been largely green and blue despite his early readings
3) Tonight is full moon... I am wondering if that might be messing him about

Funny, Toeby came to me at his +2 time tonight and jumped up on the footstool where I test him before his meals and shots.
I looked at the clock and thought, geez, this is convenient, it's time to check his BG.
I think he was trying to tell me something... I know that seems a little nutty, but he doesn't normally jump up there with me.
He's always been a bit more of my DH's cat.
The 3.0 mmol/L, or 54 mg/dL reading was a bit of a shock - I am glad he came to me before he went lower - that was a close one.

I gave him a couple teaspoons of Fancy Feast Medleys White Meat Chicken Florentine - said to be 13% carb.
After his +3 reading of 70, I gave him some Wellness Chicken & Lobster, which is 11%.

I will watch him tonight and keep giving him small amounts of this medium carb food.

Good catch! Mav can get super vocal, although that can also mean he's just being a turkey lol. Sometimes the early nadirs fizzle out, at least they did for us when Mav was on Lantus. Good plan for another test, just in case Toeby decides he wants to be special

If he's still rising by +4, I'd switch to regular food.

Hi, just read this now... AFTER his +4 test, and of course, AFTER I gave him a few licks of the Fancy Feast.
At the reading of 97 it appears he will be fine, especially now that I gave him that snack.
I have to stay up until after midnight tonight regardless to book something that's only available online once the clock ticks over...
I won't give him any more of the higher carb food, and will check his again at his +5 - if he's safe at +5 he should be good as I think his nadir is +4 or +5.
He still has some low carb supper left in his bowl... he and his bro will graze on that tonight.
Thanks for your input, Christie, I appreciate it!!!
:)

Don't forget nadirs can and do change, they are the lowest point in the cycle, and tonight that was +2 ;). You're welcome :). Happy to catch up with you, and offer a few thoughts. If you are feeling particularly curious, sure, +5 sounds good, but I suspect he's done with his shenanigans for the night.

Were you able to get the compounded bude in the .5 mgs? Wondering how Toeby's BGs would look if he took it every day. There's another kitty here, Pearl, who is on prednisolone for IBD and takes it every 4 days and she's pretty well regulated.

I think I know what that is, I'm in Alberta, good luck ;)

Now, Christie... what kind of shenanigans do you think I'M up to?
The heck with Toeby's!!!
I had to book a tee time... but you've got my imagination running.

Where are you in Alberta?
I know one person in Edmonton, a couple in Spruce Grove, and a couple in Lloyd... and now you... kinda.
;)
We flew into Calgary and did Kananaskis, Banff, Jasper, Mount Robson to BC many moons ago.
It was a great trip.

You have kinda blown my mind with this nadir thing...
I always thought of it as the average lowest time in his cycle, and comforted myself thinking if he hadn't dropped dangerously low by +5, I could go about my business for the cycle.
You've just popped that little bubble... Wahhhhhh!!!!!

Hey! Hi! Just found out this morning that they can only do the 0.5 in capsules, not in tablets or chews.
I currently have 1 mg tiny tablets and chews.
And they don't recommend my cutting my 1 mg chews in half because the drug may not be evenly distributed throughout the chew for accurate dosing.

So, I have ordered a minimum quantity of the capsules in the 0.5 and will see how big they are when I get them, and see if I can
a) get them down his yap, perhaps with some butter to help them slide, or
b) open them and mix the contents in something tasty - but Toeby, being a cat, may turn up his nose at whatever is "tasty" the day prior.

I can always talk to the new vet about a trial off the budesonide altogether, but he's been doing so well, I haven't come to that yet.
Is Pearl only taking Prednisolone every 4 days?
That's kinda awesome....

Obviously the easiest way to dose any cat with this drug would be to have in compounded in liquid form, but honestly, it is so much easier to drop a pill in his mouth - he fights liquid meds unless they taste great.
Omeprazole is a fight, for sure.

And with that, I am signing off for the night...
@Christie & Maverick , when I check this tomorrow I hope to read what you were thinking...
Maybe lottery tickets or something?
Geez, there was not one winner on that huge Lotto Max in Atlantic Canada.

Great... Toeby's brother is yodeling, and he is not Swiss.
He is full fledged Nova Scotian trailer trash (the colony he was trapped in lived around a beat-up old trailer).
It's a full moon for sure...
:)

Hehe, too funny. I'm in Calgary. Tee time was my second guess! Our health services release new vaccine booking times after midnight, that was my first guess :p.

Although he's not done many cycles like today, I often find when a kitty starts off higher at AMPS, comes down all day to a lower PMPS, that can mean they'll continue into an active cycle with an earlier nadir. You're right, he is mostly +4 (except when he isn't!)

You'd previously given me another golden nugget of advice - that if he is higher at +2, he is unlikely to drop low - that let me go to bed a a decent time several nights and not stay up poking him to no end.
So Thanks!

Good guess... but nope!
We had our second vaccines two Mondays ago, so I should be well immunized in 3 days, and I am SO excited about that!!!!
NS actually had a really well organized roll-out and we booked both shots pretty easily - we got emails from the health department inviting us to book at the appropriate time for our age group.
The dinosaur / older than dirt group.
:)

No, I'm one of "them"... a golfer.
I love it.
And, it saved my sanity for the last 2 summers - getting me outside the house in the fresh air, with socially distanced laughs with friends, enjoying watching birds, deer, and various critters.
Golfing in rural NS is not elitist as it is in some places.
Now, having a diabetic cat doesn't make this easy - I have canceled on friends at the last minute because Toeby's BG's were wonky, and that didn't make me Ms. Popularity, that's for damn sure.
