I tried to post twice yesterday, and my parents computer isn't the greatest. I kept getting errors, and finally gave up.

J.D. has some pretty stinky diarreha today.
I went into our room earlier this afternoon, and whew!!! He had one half formed poo and one loose poo.
Just a bit ago, I was laying with him, and he got up suddenly, and went to his food bowl and ate whatever was left in it, and I let him, even though it was +11, and then he was circling his little litter box (he's used to a bigger one, but this is what my parents provide) and I thought I could get a ketone test, but he squirted out diarreha. I have been giving him FortiFlora all day, and he had some yesterday on his food too. All I have with me is some Rescue Remedy and Pepcid AC (and the FortiFlora) for stomach issues.

It's been really hot. Over 100. And, J.D. has been a little stressed, but not overly so. He's been here about 6 times now, and other than a little altercation (small fight) with my parents spoiled dog yesterday, it hasn't been too bad.

I am boiling some chicken breast for him right now. Any other ideas for me?

Is he running a fever?

Darn...so far from home too....

It just might be the stress from traveling this time too. I would almost let him manage another day or two and see if it doesn't improve on its own. If not...how's your parent's vet?

I did bring a thermometer that I just bought. I have never checked a cat's tempurature, though.
It is a quick reading one. He seems pretty good. Is eating, pretty good. Last night, he had a couple little teeny pieced of roast beef from our dinner. I think he ate a lot more than usual for dinner last night, but he doesn't eat as much during the day, when he's here. He usually eats 3/4 can of FF in the AM and again in the PM divided into mini meals. Last night, he ate 1/4 can, and then I opened a whole can and put it in his bowl and he ate the whole thing. I am starting to run out of cat food, and we were just at an expensive grocery store, so I only just picked up 1 can of FF Fish and Shrimp (his favorite) and 1 can of Friskies Prime Filets as a HC if needed. I'll get more varieties tomorrow when we go to WalMart.

I hope my parent's vet is good, if we have to go.

It's shot time (and my parents are calling me to the table at the same time), gotta go make sure he eats, and then give him his shot.

Be back later.....

A more potent probiotic would be the next step up. I've used ReNew Ultimate which Cassandra (remember her?!!) once recommended. I found it in the refrigerated supplement section at Whole Foods. Some people find that pumpkin helps, as well.

Cat's normal temperature is between 100.4°F and 102.5°F. Higher temperatures may necessitate a trip to the veterinarian, depending on other symptoms.

Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 2 - 3 minutes

# Assemble supplies on your kitchen counter: human rectal thermometer, Vaseline or KY Jelly, watch or clock with second hand, and towel.

# Shake the thermometer down with a quick snap of your wrist to 96°F, then lubricate the thermometer with the Vaseline.

# Stand the cat on the counter and hold her securely with your left arm. Her face should be resting in the crook of your elbow with her tail end toward your right hand. If necessary, wrap her in the towel with her butt end protruding.

# Lift the cat's tail with your left hand while inserting the thermometer slowly and steadily into her anus, to a depth of ½ to one inch, with your right hand. You will feel her sphincter muscle tighten, then relax.

# Hold the thermometer there for two minutes while softly talking to her.

# Remove the thermometer and record the temperature.

# Wash the thermometer well with warm water and disinfectant soap, then store separately.

# This project will be much easier if you have someone to hold the cat and pet it while you lift her tail and insert the thermometer.

# A temperature of 105°F is a dangerous level and your cat should be seen by a veterinarian immediately. If it's between 103°F and 104.5°F, you should call your veterinarian for advice.

# A digital thermometer will be easier to read, and will beep when ready to be read.

That stinks! I add 2 tsp of pumpkin to Tarragon's food and it usually clears it up. Be sure to get 100% pumpkin and not the pumpkin pie mix. Good luck!

He ate some of his FF Fish and Shrimp and then had more squirted diarreha. It was a lovely topic at the dinner table.

Unfortunately all vets are closed around here, now, but my step mom says her vet is good and will be there tomorrow.

I guess I'll go try to take his tempurature. I have a digital thermometer that is supposed to take just seconds, if I remember right.

I wonder if it's the large moth he caught and I though he was eating (because I saw the big wings coming out of his mouth) but didn't eat, last night. He just dropped it, and left the dead body on the cement at my feet. Normally, he eats them.

I'm going to be going to the local grocery store in a little bit, and could pick up some plain yogurt, but he's never been interested in it in the past.

100.8 or 100.9
That was easy. Thanks for the advice. I'll try to find a can of pumkin at the grocery store. Is it with the pie fillings?

Another idea, but you'll probably have to look online for where it can be purchased locally, is feeding Wysong Chicken Gourmet Canine/Feline Diet (5% kcal from carbs). There's a little bit of ground brown rice in it. Feeding it does wonders when anyone around here has diarrhea from taking antibiotics.

Hope JD's system gets back to normal quickly. Enjoy your vacation...

Hope J.D. gets better soon!

Well no fever...so that should rule out a buggyboo causing the poo....

Perhaps it's just the heat mixed with the stress of leaving his usual place and pattern.

Hope the pumpkin works and J.D. feels better soon

Another low cost diarrhea idea is 100% psyllium, which can be found at Walmart in the Pharmacy area. It's with the Metamucil. Just open up 1 capsule 2x a day, and add it to his FF. I had to use that for Blackie's diarrhea, and it worked well. I've stopped using it because her stool is great now. I have it, just in case, though. It's a thought.

I'm wishing J.D. to make a full and speedy recovery, and am sending tons of healing vines.

Poor JD. When I was having that bout of whatever it was that all the kitties got, I purchased some Culturelle from Walmart (I believe you can get it at any drug store) and it worked pretty good. Hope your boy is feeling better today.

Poor J.D. I don't have any further suggestions, but just wanted to let you guys know you're in my thoughts. Feel better, J.D.!!
