06/22 Butters AMPS 113/+16 126...Finally home

Yesterday

Heading to the hospital with Butters now. Drop off for the cardiology appointment is at 830am. Paws crossed she gets cleared for the dental.

Thank you everyone so much for your thoughts, prayers, well wishes and advice for Butters:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:. It means so much to both of us.

Surf safely, kitties:cat:
Sending prayers Lyla. Will be watching for updates on precious Butters :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much everyone:bighug::bighug::bighug:

No news yet! I spoke with the dentist when I dropped her off. She went through Butters's history with me and told me that basically they (dentist, cardiologist and anesthesiologist) have been able to work out something for almost every animal in terms of getting some dental work done. I am confident she is in good hands. She called me at 11am to say that they got her labs back and everything looks to be stable since they were last done in April. No concerns from that perspective. The next time she calls will be after the echo.

The dentist just called. Her quick update is that Butters's echocardiogram is unchanged since the one in January. No progression, which is good. But nothing resolved so that's not the news I wanted. My compliance giving her taurine has been 100%, so the cardiologist was therefore hesitant to call the issue dilated cardiomyopathy but she said something is unusual with her heart that requires her to be closely monitored and precautions taken. The instructions from her for the dentiat are they have to give her less fluids, do close monitoring of BP and the dentist has to be quick, which is her thing. She is like famous for being fast and thorough. She is starting the dental shortly. I won't hear from her again until 90 minutes post-op.
Stable labs! Hooray! That’s something to be thankful for. Keep updating us, please!
I am very thankful for this. Sigh of relief for sure.

As for supplements, and I may have mentioned this before, but Coenzyme Q10 is essential for the heart.
But I am glad to hear that they can go ahead with the dental. You must be nervous. I would be. In fact, I can’t wait for you to tell us that Butters is okay!

I remember you mentioning this. I'll have to ask her vet about it. I was definitely nervous!! I've been distracted/busy though, which is good!

Just getting caught up Lyla, I'm glad the dental is over with, I hope having the dental done will resolve her pawing at her mouth and the swelling will be gone
Sending prayers for sweet Butters ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you everyone:bighug::bighug::bighug: I can't thank you enough for all of the support. The dentist called. She had a lot of tooth resorption on the right side. The dentist did the left side first and thought everything looked good, to the point where she was wondering how Butters could have been in so much pain. Then she did the right side and the vet said it was a real mess. I think she only has one or two teeth left on that side, if I understood correctly. She applied a Sanos Sealant. And she said she hopes that Butters never needs to see her for a dental again. She said I can do a recheck with her or with her vet, so I'll just take her to the vet.

I think I'm getting another round of clindamycin for her, and I was told to continue with the bupe for a few days. Her vet has some injectable for me to pick up. The dentist told me I will have to give her more bupe tonight. She refuses to use the slow release kind. They don't have it at the hospital because they have seen too many patients experience side effects from it. Once it's in, can't get it out. Sounded scary. I'm glad Butters was not given that. They didn't give her anything else for pain.

Hi Lyla, poor Butters. I hope the pain is manageable. Is the one that you give sublingual the slow acting one, the one I give Dolly? :nailbiting: The one I gave her today? :nailbiting::nailbiting: Dolly only has one front tooth and not too many in back. I use the stuff in the pic below. Dolly’s dental checks have been perfect for four years. You add to big jug of water, about 4 tsps. If it is safe for Butters you can get it on Amazon. It actually keeps her teeth clean. I swear by it. I will be watching for any updates. So glad this is behind you but the heart issue???sending my loving prayers that Butters doesn’t have a lot of pain. Hope you are okay. Dolly sends her love to Butters. :D See you later. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

that is such wonderful news. Poor Butters... I mean... REALLY.. she's been living with this for a while... what a trooper she is! I am so happy that she's finished with this and I am looking forward to hearing about how much better she is going to be doing after she recovers from this. I say YES to wine! I've been indulging in quite a bit of it lately myself for obvious reasons... although yours can be considered celebratory... which is much better! :-)

Such good news, I've been checking in throughout the day. Sounds like you have an excellent team of vets on hand. The resorption is supposed to be really painful, poor Butters. You must be so relieved, I hope she recovers quickly and eats.

And for some light relief, now I am picturing a combined image of Alfalfa (remember Little Rascals??) - big swollen post-dentist face with the skinny little shaved body. Poor Butters.... :bighug:

I've been thinking about you and your girl a lot today. So happy to hear she is out of surgery and things went well. You must be soooo relieved :)
I hope she recovers quickly.... you're such a great mama Lyla. Hang in there things are getting better. :bighug::bighug:

Oh Lyla, You must be so relieved this is over with, thanks for the update
I hope our Butters will not be in too much pain and she recovers quickly.
She is one tough girl.
Big big kisses Butter's ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yes. Alfalfa!

We are home and Butters was demanding food immediately. I gave her bupe, clindamycin and a couple of tablespoons of pork puree that I made. It's late for us. Almost four hours past shot time, so I am skipping tonight's insulin even though I think it would be safe to give her her normal dose.

Lol! Yes, I remember:joyful:. I should make her a cat sized wrap around ice pack for her head.

Is this why her face was so swollen and pawing at her mouth?
I sure hope so. I kept telling her vet she was constantly pawing at the right side of her mouth, so the dental issues definitely explain that. It could also explain the mouth swelling. But I don't think it explains why her eyes look swollen sometimes. And there is that ear infection that I administered baytril topical for last week. She is seeing her vet for a recheck on Friday. Her vet thinks she may have an allergy.
Kisses to Tyler:kiss:
:bighug:
Welcome Home Butters :bighug:!! Wishing you a speedy recovery!!!!

You can’t beat this Lyla!! Pain is clearly under control for her to want to eat immediately….this is really awesome.
I need to keep it under control. It seems to me that the only thing they gave her was anesthesia and some local as well. The vet said she'd normally give codeine but didn't because butters is constipated. :banghead: She didn't want to make it worse. She also wanted me to reduce bupe from the q8 her vet allows, down to q12. I'm sticking with q8 for now. But I really hope Butters is comfortable once the anesthesia wears off. We shall see.

That had to be causing the mouth swelling. I hope they can figure out why her eyes look swollen at times. I hope when you see the vet for the recheck that ear infection will be gone. She's been thru so much and so have you but you are doing an amazing job.
Saying a prayer that she will be comfortable tonight
I hope whatever you give her for the constipation works
I would also stick with giving the bupe every 8 hours for now also :bighug::bighug:

Do you mean the bupe? I was giving it buccal and every 8-12 hours (really every 8). But her vet dispensed some injectable bupe for me to try out. It is still administered every 8-12 hours. It isn't the slow release one, which stays in the system up to 72 hours from what I understand from the dentist. That's the one they refuse to use in the hospital.

So glad Dolly's dental checks have been perfect! Sending lots of love to you both and healing vines to Dolly:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Ugh. Yes she sure has been living with this for a while. I have been trying to get her a dental for over a year, and I was dismissed by several vets because her mouth never looked that bad to them. Poor Butters. I hope this makes a huge difference for her.

I am still hoping every single day that we will be able to have a celebratory glass of wine for Mr. Darcy soon...after an actual poop at home.:)

Yay for Butters. :joyful: So happy to know you are safe and home and most important Butters is hungry :p Feed Butters, grab a glass and relax, the worst is over. You have both been through so much, just waiting to get an appointment :banghead::banghead::banghead: No more appointment cancellation prayers from
Dolly. We are all just praying she gets through the night with minimal pain. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Getting caught up:

Glad Butters made it through the dental! I'm so relieved for you! Best wishes for the speediest of recoveries! :cat:

Shes such a gorgeous girl, my goodness.
