It was amazing (to me) how simuliar last night was to the night before:

He did not get another dose decrease because the 36 last night was still from the shed of the 1.25 dose.

J.D. was super purry again last night and this morning. Maybe thanking me for the FF Gravy Lovers and the shrimp. :mrgreen:
I haven't let them outside yet, (as I had to sleep in again), but will soon.

I am a little concerned that Ginger will be fed one time in the morning and one time at night, while we're gone.
Basically, they now get fed in 1/4 can (of FF) meals .. 3 in the morning, and 3 at night. So, 1 and 1/2 cans of FF a day.
I was talking to someone at work, about my concerns, and telling her how I will have the basement and bedroom doors shut so Ginger (can't hide and) will be confined to the livingroom, diningroom, and kitchen areas of my condo. She will also not be taken outside on a leash, and will not have the interaction of her brother J.D. during the day, and that maybe I should reduce her food intake because of this. The girl at work replied that the way she sees it, Ginger will be missing me, missing J.D., and missing going outside (or in the other blocked off rooms of the house), at least let her have her food. If she gains weight, I can work on reducing it when I get back.

So, this is what I (we) thought would be a good idea:
Give her 1 can of FF in the morning.. and give her 1/2 can of FF with a small handful (less than 1/4 cup) of dry EVO as a treat at night time. She sometimes gets EVO dry (about 20 to 30 kibbles) thrown into her bowl, mostly as a treat, but sometimes after she scarfs and barfs and is hungry again immediately after expelling all her food. :roll:

Any thoughts on this?

I've never used ice trays before, so I'm new to this.
I put 3 cans of FF in a bowl, and mixed in a little water. I put the mixture in a 14 cube ice tray and then, pushed (with my finger) about 15 kibbles of EVO into each section, then I added another can of watered down FF on top, and froze it.
Do they just pop out?
Since each section is about 1/4 can, with about 15 kibbles mixed in, maybe she could be fed 1/2 can of FF and 2 frozen cubes (another 1/2 can) in the morning..that way the cubes might last until close to lunch time, and then be fed her final 1/2 can of FF at night time.
I know, maybe too much thinking. I just care about her. I have had pangs in my heart about leaving her, as I always do.

I also planted a big pot of cat grass yesterday, hopefully it will be ready for her, by next Sunday, when we leave.

I missed what the petsitting arrangements are. I gather that someone is coming in twice daily to feed? Will the person spend a little time playing with Ginger to burn off some energy?

I tend to side with your co-worker on this one. Ginger is going to have a few changes going on, so I would want her to have the comfort of her food while you are gone. I have no experience with freezing food, so I can't help you there. Have you tried or considered a timed feeder? The two meal feeder is easy to operate, and will let Ginger have a snack mid-day. If that is not possible, freezing sounds like a good idea. I'm not sure about freezing the dry and wet together, though. The dry might be mushy.

Would it be possible to take Ginger's allotment of dry kibbles, and hide them around her living space? I used to do this to amuse Pinkerton, and give him something to do. I would put one or two in his cat beds, under a chair, on the sofa, etc, etc, so he could entertain himself by hunting around for them. Of course, after about two days of this, he had the entire exercise mapped out, and tore around to each hiding place in the first 90 seconds :-D I also have a plastic treat ball. It has a small hole in it, so that when the cat bats it around and it rolls, the hard treats fall out of the hole one by one. Emily used to entertain herself for hours with this. Will you leave the TV or radio on for noise, or will she be able to look out the window?
 
The treat ball is a good idea. But will just sit and gather dust when we're back, besides I'm kinda short on funds.
I thought about having her just throw the kibbles up in the air and let her find them where they fall. I'd do that,, but I bet the lady will think that's a little messy. Maybe, I can get her to hide them though. I just don't know this lady too well. I'm trading she'll take care of my cat while I'm on vacaton for I'll take care of her cats while she's on vacation.
I have an automatic feeder. I'm just a little embarrassed that she'll think it's too much trouble. I'm already planning to tell her: If she has diarrehea give her FortiFlora, and if she has constipation give her Miralax, and if she won't eat give her toppings or treats or FortiFlora or tuna or dry food or whatever she wants...

Ginger loves her laser toy, so I'm hoping she will spend a little time with her playing with that.

I think I'll go knock on her door now, to discuss it.
 
Don't be embarassed it takes an extra two minutes to do the autofeeder. You could put kibble in one. I wouldn't change things up too much for her or at least start the routine now to get her used to changes in how she gets her food (sprinkled on the floor or in a feeder).

I would also explicitly state to the sitter to let you know if she isn't eating. Owners going away on vacation can start a cat not eating well and the FHL cycle. Most cats do fine. But a number of cats find their way to the assisted feeding forum because of this though.
 
I just went and rang her doorbell and talked to her, but she is busy making dinner and will talk to me tomorrow.
She is just a little bit hoidy toidy, And intimidates me a little. She told me she has allergies and I know her house is perfect. My is not. I cleaned a little extra for her, but can only do so much.

It was me coming back from vacation many years ago, when J.D. started being diabetic when I got home. Stress, dishes filled to the brim with dry food, missing me, who knows. I have seen many cats be diagnosed after their parents got home from vacation.

This is Ginger's 6th time of being left by herself while I made my annual trip, so she should be okay. I CAN'T WAIT TO COME HOME! sorry :oops: I'll shut up now.

I wish I'm closer and You wouldn't have to worry about Ginger. I left my Jake and Maya 3yrs ago for 3 weeks and last year for 2 weeks.
I bought very small plastic containers (You can put maybe 1FF in)fill them with 1/4 FFwith water and Miralax . Cat sitter was coming 2xday,
feed Jake and Maya(shot for Jake and leave frozen food in timed feeder for +4 and +8 and for Maya he left on the higher place..
They were fine and worked perfect with no problems.
Try not to wory to much!

Oh Dyana! Good luck with the pet sitting arrangement. What a predicament. I wish I had some great insight but I don't. We haven't all been gone on vacation since diagnosis. We are going away for a few days at the end of July and having our neighbor come in twice a day. Our cats are free fed, so it should be ok.

Try not to worry too much. It will all work out. Somehow it always does. ((((hugs))))

Yes, it's his 80th birthday this year on June 26th and I'll be landing on Father's Day. If only he didn't have everything.
He's impossible to buy for, but at least I can take him out to dinner.
 
freezing the food is a good idea...i tested that with Rocket this morning....cause if i get a job there won't be anyone home to make sure he has food and i don't want him to eat his meal in one sitting....he did ok with it....not the greatest....but maybe i didn't put enough water....plus his food has a lot of meds added to it....

just tell your sitter that THIS IS HOW YOU DO THINGS FOR GINGER.....i'm sure if her cats have specific needs she would make sure to let you know...don't kid yourself....if i were you i would throw in there the helping her when she goes away blah blah....in a subtle way....this way she is concious of doing it right for you as she would want it done right for her....

praying for you and DBF....will add Ginger to the list....
