Hey everyone Poopers numbers are for sure going down. This morning it’s at 12mmol/L (216mg/dL). Should I maintain at 3U for today? Please let me know I have to give his insulin soon

i tested him and his numbers went up, i gave him 3U. I will be home so every 2 hours ill get his levels and keep updating the sheetWendy lives on the west coast. She isn’t around this time of day.
Poopers is >200. How do you know he is going down? Did you stall get a second test?
Will you be around to monitor today? If you can monitor and have test strips and karo, mc, hc foods I’d shoot.
Wendy is typically on the Board late into the night and may not be around this early. Bhooma is in India and I'm not entirely sure of the time difference.
If you've just started Lantus, which is what it looks like from your spreadsheet, you need to hold the dose for 5 - 7 days (unless. dose reduction is indicated). Tis is one of the differences with a depot insulin vs Caninsulin. You need to let the depot become established. I'd also suggest you read over the dosing method sticky and decide which approach to dosing you want to follow. If you are still feeding Poopers any dry food, you are constrained to using SLGS.
These are the syringes I’m using https://diabetesexpress.ca/products/bd-uf-ii-syringe-3-10cc-31g-8mmThere's a lot of information to absorb. In addition, Lantus/Lev are very different than Caninsulin and you have to keep the depot in mind -- something that doesn't apply to an "in and out" insulin. One other difference, in case no one mentioned it, with Lantus you test, feed, and shoot all within a few minutes. Lantus onset is roughly at +2. Because the insulin takes a while to kick in, unlike with Caninsulin, you do not need to feed, wait a while, then shoot. And just to be completely obsessive, you are using U100 syringes? (Caninsulin syringes are U40.)
I think I asked you previously but is there any way you can gradually transition Poopers off of the foods you're using? They are both high in carbs.
Ok good to know! Thank you for this information! Those syringes are perfect.
I would give Gabby her shot when her face was in her food. (She was very food motivated and didn't even notice that she was getting a shot.) 10 - 15 min. is fine. Because onset is later with Lantus, you don't have to wait for food to start influencing the BG numbers.
