We had a few good days but, I only bought a few cans of the Natural Balance brand to see if she liked it, so when I ran out she out that and Fancy Feast, OF COURSE no more numbers just letters, only 2 -HI.(Later found out thru Sienna that this particular brand is high carb), Actually last nigh I picked up a few cans of "Champion Gourmet" salmon flavor and she LOVES it.

Thank You Sienna for the heads up on the Natural Balance Indoor canned food. I went back to Newman's Own Organic canned salmon and the jury is still out on that one. I also purchased "Champion" brand and she really likes it. I do need assistance with this one. I never even heard of it, so if ANYONE KNOWS, PLEASE INFORM ME

Thank You all. I really do need/depend on the advise I GET HERE :-D :-D

Have a blessed Day

Morning, Laura

Here a link for the canned cat food carb information:

http://www.catinfo.org/docs/FoodChartPublic9-22-12.pdf

You may want to save this link to your Favorites in your browser for easy reference for choosing the proper diet with lower carbs for your kitty. I'm not sure if the food that you've chosen is listed on them, however, if not, you may want to go for an alternative. I feed Evo 95% Chicken & Turkey to my kitty, Blackie, however, that same food may or may work for yours, hence the nice lists of different foods to try. Good luck!

As I mentioned to Laura yesterday, janet & Binky's list is out of date. Dr. Lisa updated the list and even her list is not entirely current (e.g., the carbs in some of the Weruva line). Here's the link to Dr. Lisa's food chart.

Laura:

I'd encourage you to read Dr. Lisa's site about feline nutrition. One of the things she discusses is the information on the can. Manufacturers provide a guaranteed analysis -- the nutritional information is in minimums and maximums. Unfortunately, this isn't reliable information if your cat has dietary restrictions -- like carbs. What you need are the "as fed" values. In most cases, the only way to get this is to contact the manufacturer. Some manufacturers will not provide this information or they will make you wait forever before sending it. We can't give you any definite information about the carb content without the "as fed" values.

Please stop reducing your cats dose every time you see a better number. I see you did it again yesterday. You need to stay consistent, because I am pretty confident that your current dose is too low and you will need to increase before your cat is regulated. As long as you're playing with the dose, you'll never get her regulated. I know it's scary, but you need to stay the course. Look at my SS - yesterday and two nights prior my cat had a normal number. Of course I hesitated, but I forced myself to hold the dose, and nothing bad happened - he had a nice smooth curve. I think you'd be safe upping to 2 units - and staying there for several cycles.

You really need to stay consistently on the same dose until your kitty decides otherwise. Inconsistent dosing will give you really wonky #s, and create more frustration for you both. Feel free to take a look at Blackie's SS, too, to see what I've done with her. Blackie's been on 1.25u since the evening of 03-30-2014. She's a long term diabetic, though.

Consistency is the key.
