Mowgli is spending a lot of his mornings up in the pinks, I’m not confident at this point that it is bouncing or his normal BG w/o insulin. His cycles have been bringing him nice and low though. We’re carrying on with 1u this week and hopefully he shallows out a bit.

I had big dreams of getting Mowgli into remission before all of my vacation hits but now I’m realizing that it’s probably not going to happen... time to start mildly panicking and trying to find a pet sitter for my longer vacation sets.

We had a nice and productive weekend with a lot of sun spent with family. Perfect. Back to reality this morning though

Hope everyone had a great weekend and has a lovely Monday :D

I'm so glad you had a great weekend Amanda, and I'm beyond jealous that you had sun! We've had a few hours here in the last week, but mostly cloudy, cool, and rainy. Boo. I hope Mowgli comes down from the pinks and at least enjoys some beach time today!

Glad you had a good weekend Amanda! When is your vacation? We went away in late Feb, early March and came back to Leo out of remission :(
Come down to the beach Mowgli :bighug:
Hope you have a wonderful day, even if it's Monday!

How do you handle it when you're gone for a time? Does Mowgli stay home & have someone come in to take care of him? Do you get a pet sitter from your Vet? I've heard that sometimes the Techs that work there will do that. At least they're experienced!

He is getting some nice numbers in the PM cycle. One thing to keep in mind is the AMPS is usually the last number to come down.
Thanks! I didn't know that was typical but I can certainly observe that trend with Mowgli. I am SO glad that he is at least getting really great numbers at night. Yesterdays curve wasn't horrible but I know he can do better ;)

I wish everyone could have had the amazing weather we had here this weekend, I hope that it stays this nice :)

We will never know what Mowgli's BG does while I'm at work.... it's his best kept secret :D

I have a few booked vacations coming up: a week in July and two weeks in August. I'm going to start looking for pet sitters now and hope for the best

Mowgli is actually a family pet from Nova Scotia, my mom didn't have the time to take care of a diabetic cat so I flew him out to live with me. So actually, I haven't gone on vacation while I've had him. Typically with Nyx we would just leave out a tonne of food and have someone pop in every couple days to make sure she's alive and clean the litter box haha... much less to ask than to come over every 12 hours and feed / shoot a cat haha. I think my Mom did the same with Mowgli when she would leave (have someone stop by daily to feed)

I'm going to look into pet sitters and see what options I have... I think boarding at a vet could be too expensive for longer term trips. I will see what options I have and then if I hit a dead end I will come back here for further advice ;)

I wasn't suggesting boarding at the vet. I meant asking if one of the techs would be interested in stopping in to give his insulin & feed him.

Ahhh! I see, definitely something to look into! I'll start asking around

You mean he didn't get insulin the entire time she was gone?

How long will you be gone?

Oh, no, like... when he was diagnosed with diabetes in March, she wasn't able to care for him because of different personal and financial constraints she has in her life, so she was considering putting him down. I personally don't have kids or anything and I have the means to take care of him so I immediately hatched a plan so we could avoid putting him down. I basically just paid for my sister to fly out with him. This will be the first time that Mowgli will have had diabetes while his human is away.

I'll be away for a week in July and two weeks in August

I remember that from March! We were just coming back on the board officially. That was really impressive that you flew your sister out with your mom's little Mowgli! I can't remember if I told you then, but you're a sweetheart!

We're going away again at the end of June for five days. The trip was planned last September when Leo was in remission and so my sister was going to come here and stay with him. She's still coming thank goodness, but I hired a VetTech to come over and do the pre-testing and shots. Now, I'm trying to convince my sister to test at least a couple of times a day and night...:p Testing lessons should be starting soon!

Try calling your vet and all the local vets to see if they can help, that's what I did, I spoke with my vet and she suggested it before I had a chance to ask her.

Good luck Amanda!

Thanks Sonia!

It seems like a lot of people ask their vet. I think I’m going to look into vet and pet sitting services here too. And I might ask a friend to house sit. When it comes to friends though, it seems like a lot to ask. I appreciate your advice :D

It’s great that your sister is willing to learn to test! I was planning to get my sister to do the same but she decided to go back to work (was on maternity) so I can’t fault her for that ;)

I’m sure I’ll find a way to work it out :) for now it’s just something playing in the back of my mind!
