Furball was happy & purry this morning until she realized she wasn't getting fed. Her teeth cleaning is today and she has to fast. I hate fasting cats. I have 3 hours before I drop her off. Hopefully she won't drive me crazy.

The PetAlive Pancreas Booster and GlucoEnsure didn't arrive until yesterday, so I didn't have time to give her any before the dental. I wish it didn't take so long to ship. I'm still hoping between that and the dental she won't need to go back on insulin. Today is exactly 1 year and 6 months since she went OTJ.

Fingers crossed that this cleaning will get Furball back on track. Wish you had said something about the GE and PB. I would have put some in the mail to you. I have plenty. I put the PB on order when there was a shortage/back order just to make sure I got it as soon as they got stock. I now have 3 bottles and 2 bottles of GE.
 
Carla, lots of vines going out to Furball today for the cleaning. Hopefully that will be all she needed to keep her in the OTJ saddle. I could have sent you some PB or GE too if I had known that you had to wait so long. That is the only bad thing about the company, is sllllllllow shipping.

Thanks. I thought it was going to be here Tuesday, but it got hung up sorting at the post office near me for two days for some reason. I was tracking it.
 
Question about dental cleanings and cats in remission: My concern is that the vet will give glucose to them while they are under to keep their BG's from going too low. Do they have to do that?

I've not heard of that. Since Furball's numbers are higher right now, I don't think I have to worry about that. That would be something to discuss with the vet doing the dental.

Furball has been dropped off. We had to sit in the waiting room for 30 minutes. They were running behind. There were a lot of barking dogs, but she didn't seem bothered by it. She's pretty laid back. They are supposed to start in 15 minutes. She's going to call me if they find anything and she needs more than a cleaning. Thanks everyone for the prayers, vines and good wishes.
 
The vet just called and everything went well with the dental. She just needed her teeth cleaned. Her BG was 388 at the vet. I'll pick her up in about 3 hours. Hopefully her BG will come back down now and she won't need insulin.

The vet got a good look in the ear she has been having problems with and she said the polyp is coming back. She just wants to watch it for now.
 
Good news! Good girl, Furball! Now, it's time to bring your bgs back down.

Carla, I'm so glad that the cleaning went well. I hope the ear polyp will not cause problems. It's good that the vet got a good look at it.

Relief for such good dental news
I agree with Wendy - 388 is pretty high - it will be interesting to see what it is once she gets home and gets over the vet visit - I hope she doesn't need insulin
 
So glad all went well and she's home!

I do agree with Wendy and Carol...I wouldn't wait to long to restart the juice, either...you want to try and nip this in the bud before her body gets to used to those numbers. With any luck, it will be a short stay on insulin.

Good to hear she's got some nice clean chompers and no more work was needed... Be a role model for the other kitties and stay off the juice Furball!
 
Hi Carla, just popping in from the road to say I'm so glad Furball is home and just needed a cleaning. Hope her BG comes back down soon. What a patient kitty waiting with a bunch yapping dogs!

I’m so glad the dental went well.

Here is my concern with her numbers. In regard to dental issues, I’ve seen higher numbers on a cat in remission if they had an infection or inflammation (gingivitis), an abscess, or some other tooth issue. But generally not if there is just tartar (unless it is causing gingivitis). We’ve had a few cats who had dentals, with no other issues other than cleaning needed, and the numbers did not come down.

If she were mine and her BG was not normal by the morning, I’d restart insulin. I’m concerned that the numbers were not caused by any dental issues and the longer you wait to give insulin, the greater the insulin resistance.
 
Good news that she is safely home and didn't lose any teeth. Hopefully she will come down by tomorrow morning when the stress of today is behind her. Finger and Paws crossed for you. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I appreciate everyone's concern about her maybe needing to start insulin again, but I don't have any insulin. I didn't get the prescription until today when I picked her up. The pharmacy that sold me a single pen has closed. I'll have to call around and see if anyone will sell one pen. I plan to start her on the Gluco Ensure tomorrow morning.

Furball ate a good bit of her dinner and a little more baby food. She seems to feel pretty good. The vet had her on a course of Clavamox before the dental and wants me to continue it for 7 days afterwards. That could raise her BG.

Just so you know, the information on Gluco Ensure states it only "supports glucose levels already in the normal range”. I know a lot of people here are starting to use it but I think Furball’s numbers are too high for something like this to affect. Just being honest. Gluco Ensure has been around quite a while and there was a discussion about it way back in 2011. If it had been that great, all our cats would have been in remission. It might be a good support supplement but it doesn’t take the place of insulin in a cat that needs exogenous insulin.
 
Happy to hear Furball is home and only needed a cleaning. I agree with the others. I'd start her back on insulin as soon as you possibly can. Her spot checks over the last month have been pretty high. If you aren't able to get your hands on some Lantus right away, you might want to consider getting some N from Walmart for the interim. I know N's not ideal, but it'll help til you're able to get Lantus.

The sooner you can get her numbers down the better chance you'll have to get her back into remission.

She was 252 at AMBG and 236 at +5.5 She didn't eat very much of the food I mixed the Gluco Ensure in to, so I had to put some in a capsule and give it to her. She seems to feel good. She has 7 days of Clavamox to take, so I am giving her some Florastor in a capsule with it. I wish she would eat food with something mixed in it. I'm not sure about starting the Pancreas Booster yet because I don't want to have to give her another capsule. She hates having anything put in her mouth.

Sending lots of vines to her. I think at this point if you can only get one or the other in her , I would do the PB to help support her pancreas. As Marje said the GE is more to support them in healthy numbers. Is the clavamox liquid ? You mentioned that could be elevating her BG.

I think it's an ECID thing. More likely, when their BG goes up while they're on an antibiotic, it's the infection that is causing the raised BG.

I hope you can get some insulin soon. If Furball isn't coming down now as she's feeling better, she's going to need some help. Sending vines and prayers.
 
I mixed some Pancreas Booster in Furball's dinner because it is not as strong smelling as the Gluco Ensure. She ate a little bit of it, but didn't eat all of it. The last couple of weeks, all of my cats have been not eating very much on and off. Of course she does this when I mix something in her food. I'll give her the capsule of the Gluco Enusre because it is already made up. I'll have to put some Pancreas Booster in a capsule too if she's going to be picky about eating.
