hes due in the vets at 9am Tuesday morning. he can have his usual meal with his shot at 1am but then nothing else until I get him home at 11 am after the vet has done all the tests. the vet said to reduce the dose but im not sure by how much and the vet is not in until the morning of the vet visit to ask. the other vet I was seeing up to this point used to tell me to keep the dose as normal but if hes not eating for 12 hours surely that's going to make his bg go really low!

anyway on the positive side,we had a good evening, night and having a really good morning! (even though hes still clearing the bounce) hes played, meowed and woke me up for breakfast, even the way hes sitting is much more comfortable and snuggled.its strange its like something has changed literally over night! obviously theres still a reason why hes such a high dose boy but while hes more comfortable it makes me rest easier AND I slept for 6 whole hours last night without waking.that hasn't happened since he was diagnosed.whether it was through sheer exhaustion or because I knew he was a little better.i don't know!

Hi Anna:

Some vets say to give half the normal dose, but a lot of people here skip the shot completely. There should be some of the more knowledgeable people along in a few hours, and I'm sure they'll weigh in. I'm glad he's doing so much better, and that you finally got some sleep.

Sending good vetty vines for Bailey, and good sleep vines for you!

If he's getting a meal at shot time, I'm less concerned than if you were not supposed to be feeding. Giving Bailey half the usual dose would certainly be safe, especially since the vet will (ostensibly) be able to keep an eye on his BG numbers.

I'd also go with a 1/2 dose, unless the vet specifically told you to skip it. we've done the 1/2 dose for all of punkin's anesthesias and it's worked out.

I agree with the others on the 1/2 dose, unless Bailey surprises you with an unusually low preshot number. For Neko's last dental I gave her 1/4 dose when she started out at 6.8 (123) and she got down to 4.1 on the AlphaTrak at the vets office! Good luck with the tests on Tuesday.

It's great to hear that Bailey is feeling better. :-D And that you got sleep.

i cant wait til this time tomorrow when hes back home with me.i don't know who hates the vets more..........me or bailey!

I do hope he finds whats wrong with my boy.he has his goodish days and really bad ones.part of me is terrified of what hes going to find but the half of me is hopefully this is the start of getting him right! will let you guys know as soon as I know whats going on.thanks for all your support!
