Ti-Mousse is on a new dose this morning; we'll see how it works!

I was very happy this morning to see my hummingbird has arrived !:joyful: She's Robin! I was waiting for her since last week! First time I got hummingbirds, they were two together, so I named them Batman and Robin. Not long after, I realised I had a male and a female... and the male left..!! So I kept Robin as my female's name! She should stay with me till September or October:joyful:. Today, I'll move my other bird feeders a little further, so she'll be more quiet!

Hope our little kitties will do good today!

Good luck with the new dose Ti-mousse!!

Lyane, do you do anything else to attract hummingbirds? I love watching them. My mom got me a hummingbird feeder last year as a house warming gift but I’m afraid I might be too far north! I usually put out a few bright planters as well

It’s such a nice spring signal that Robin is sending you! I can’t wait until the weather warms up here :joyful:

Interesting link on hummingbirds in Alberta. Finally, you have more species that I have here, mine is Ruby-throated!
One thing is to put your feeder early, so when they arrive and find food they stick around and adopt you! They are very loyal, once they find a feeder they come back year after year!
The recipe for the nectar is 4 parts water, 1 part sugar. The nectar they sell has red coloring which is poison for birds!
Good luck if you want to try, it's very pleasant!!

Thanks for the tips (especially the recipe)! We are JUST getting over our cold weather now so I will mix up the feeder this weekend!

I hope I get adopted by a nice hummingbird!! I also live beside my sister so I will also encourage her to get hers out! we'll get a colony on the go!

I love the Hummers! I hang the feeder in the shade by my back window so I can watch them. When the weather warms up you need to change their sugar water frequently. It gets full of mold from the heat! I take them down at least twice a week & scrub out the feeder & everything.( lots of work :( )

Sometimes I have wasps trying to get the sugar water; I like bees but not wasps! I wonder what to do to send them somewhere else....:)

Good luck with the new dose!

I love hummingbirds. They are very magical to me. I like this:

" Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time carrying our hopes for love, joy, and celebration. The hummingbird's delicate grace remind us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laugher is life's sweetest creation".

We have two beautiful blown glass hummingbird feeders, one is a red hot chill pepper. I was not very good about taking them down and cleaning them as Joy's link above, so I started using plants that can attract them. My favorite and works like a charm is every year I try to get a large hanging basket of fuchsia. They love it!

BTW: I love your names for the hummers.

Last year I tried putting a dish of sugar water on the ground for the wasps It worked pretty good . A few still crawled around the feeders but most of them were on the ground.
This year I'm going to gradually move the dish of sugar water further away & see if that helps. I also have Nectar Guards Little silicone thingys that fit inside the holes. The bees & wasps can't fit in to crawl into the feeder!

I think they make open feeders Like a small plastic bowl you can hang next to the Humming bird feeder . I'm going to find one of those for the wasps & bees. (bees like Yellow so don't use yellow for the hummers.)

I'm a fanatic about NOT using Plastic. My feeders are Glass (the part where the hummers feed is plastic, haven't found one YET that's made of glass!) I also only fill the feeder half way. So far I only have a few Hummers :(

I try to get a large hanging basket of fuchsia. They love it!
I'm going to get a Fuchsia this year!

" Legends say

Thank you for that quote! I Love it. Copied it for future inspiration! :joyful:

Beautiful! Full of life, mystery and fantasy!! Thanks for sharing this.. :)

You gave me a good idea! Two years ago, I started getting fuchsia for my hanging baskets in front for Robin, but she never went there. If it works for your hummers, I'll get one this year and hang it near her feeder in the backyard, maybe she just doesn't like to go in front! :) I might have Batman's visit then....

Let's do that! Open feeders for the wasps plus Nectar Guards!! My feeders are glass also and come all apart so easy to clean (I don't like plastic), but as summer goes I'm getting a little lazy, so if fuchsia can help!!:)
