Hi everyone, hope you and your kitties are all doing great!

We've moved into our temporary apartment until we go home...Willow did pretty well, adjusted quickly without too much stress, and is ok here now (we have her confined to our bedroom, which is where we spend most of our time...less area for her to have to move or to get used to).

Tuesday was our trip to Ottawa to see the dental specialist. She did well on the trip (1 hour each way, we set up the bed of the camper van for her and I sit with her) and with the vet. She has a cracked canine (knew that), lots of plaque on one molar (knew that) and a fair bit of tooth resorption (suspected that). So yes, she does need dentistry. And yes, her mouth is painful and it would make eating more comfortable. The vet suggested around 1 1/2 hours of anesthetic time for extractions, etc.

Wayne and I were pretty ready to go ahead with it beforehand, looking at it from a hospice point of view...it'll make her more comfortable at least when she's eating, and re the risk of her not recovering from anesthetic...this was the best place she could be (board-certified anesthesiologist). We never felt that the dentistry would *solve* her appetite issues (we have no idea what the cause of her inappetence is) but help her comfort. The vet was very clear outlining that there was a risk the surgery could push her over the edge with the *other* things she has going on....she might just never recover, and decline quickly. And we really don't know what else is going on, but right now we feel she is already on a decline, we're just trying to keep her comfortable, and we're struggling to keep her eating as it isl Looking at the dentistry, the recovery from that, the possible decline overall, and the trip to NS on top of everything ... we decided not to go ahead with the dentistry.

I started her on Pepcid AC last night, and am upping her gabapentin dosage as well to see if these help. Today she started off eating well...even on her own, without us holding the bowl!!...for 3 or 4 meals, so yay! Also earned a reduction this morning on the 4th cycle of her increase to 1.95U.

I won't be able to post as frequently the next while (no wifi at the apartment) but will check in whenever I can, and will be thinking of you and your kitties. Thank you all, with love, Nikki
