Hello everyone. I just wanted to give everyone a quick update on junior. His sugar levels have remained consistently low at 143 without any insulin ever given. I attribute this to switching his food immediately upon diabetic diagnosis. Pre diagnosis he was at 500 glucose on royal feline moderate so. I tried for months to switch him to wet food using Dr Lisa's food chart without any success. He liked the wet food for a couple of days and then wanted nothing to do with it. I spend hundreds of dollars and a lot of it ended up on the trash as he would not eat it. It was so stressful seeing him run to the kitchen to eat and lick the food and walk away leaving it pretty much uneaten. I tried adding fortiflora. Tuna water. Parmesan. Sprinkling dry food. Warming the food a bit. If you can think it I tried it. Even letting him go long periods without eating and he wouldn't eat but lost more weight. At the start of this in November 2016 he was13 pounds. As of this morning may 2017 he is 9.2 pounds. I then gave in a switched him to young again zero mature dry food. and he was eating just right. Lately I find that I am not 100-% sure this food is the best for him because he would consume tons of water to then throw up all of it. He poops like a human. And it smell horrible. He pees so much like a person too. I have contacted young again on numerous occasions and they have been very nice and knowledgeable. With that said I am not sure if junior is having other isssues unrelated to this food but I will be trying natures instinct variety. Medallion raw food. To see how that goes. Maybe the fact that the food comes in little round balls may fool him to think it's treats which he has alway in the past prior to diabentic Diagnosis (soft treats). Last doctor visit his blood work was normal with the exception of increase BUN and creatine which the doctor associated with early signs of kidney disease but later said it could be to dehydration because he was going to have a dental cleaning and I had removed food and water and his body seemed to have needed the water for this type of food (ya) because when he came home he'd drank what appear to be like 8 oz water and threw it all up. He throws up once a week. I am thinking that If all else fails he maybe going back to dry prescribed cat food to make him as comfortable as possible for what I hope is a long life yet to be lived.
My sisters cat who is healthy was also switched over to young again and we've had the same issue with the water consumption and throwing up. Not sure what's going on. If anyone can tell me how the nature instinct food has work for them I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
