Heather, that would be great if your friend could come with you. Fürth isn't that far away, but far enough that I couldn't make it there in a reasonable amount of time :sad: in an Emergency I could be reached by phone and translate the important stuff. If you want to get copies of labs or reports I can certainly translate those (don't know how much vets write, but Docs normally write a letter after a patient consult and send it to the regular doc). Both German and English are no problem for me, plus the medical stuff ( I am a doc 
) one thing you could try is tell the vet to explain in "medical terms" often doctors in Germany use "Volksdeutsche" or laymans terms when talking with patients. The proper medical terminology is like in English mostly Latin (the language of science) and therefore easier to understand. For example the lay term "Bauchspeicheldrüsenentzündung" in German medical terminology is "Pankreatitis" which seems more obvious since the English/Latin is pancreatitis. Or "Wasserlunge" is "pulmonal ödem" or pulmonary edema.
