When I had the car accident on Saturday, both my air bags went off. The knee air bag bruised up my shins. The left shin swelled up and was very red. The swelling has gone down a lot and there is only one red dot in the middle of it. It still hurts to touch it. I've been putting Arnica on it. My mom is worried I'll get a blood clot. From what I've read online, I think it will be fine and heal on its own. Does anyone have any other treatment suggestions? Thanks.

Oh dear I missed your accident, how unfortunate :( I would go with arnica for bruising too. I have no idea whether that sort of injury could result in a blood clot - I didn't even know there was such a thing as knee air bags! Do you have medical advice lines where you are? If so it might be worth giving them a call even if it's just to stop your mom from worrying.

Think blue Furball

Gosh, Carla. No clue on the shin swelling. But I sure can send vines that everything heals fast and well. So sorry about the accident.

Furball...lots of blue showing up for the happy purry girl. A good thing. Even if the bounce follows. Hope they are lower and shorter as your kidden gets used to the blues.

Morning Carla :coffee::coffee::coffee:

Nice on the blues last night Furball. I so hope you can repeat the past few tips to the grotto. Blue looks good on you. No bouncing, 'K?

I missed reading about your accident, I am so sorry. I suspect that your shins are just badly bruised. It is good to read that you are healing well. I have no clue on whether that kind of bruising would result in a clot. Dunno....

Have a great day today. I hope all goes well. Heal well.

Ouch on the shins. Hope you are feeling better. Furball help mama out and stay in good numbers so she doesn't have to worry.

That bruise probably went pretty deep, so it will take some time to heal. I agree with Serryn about calling an advice nurse if your health plan has such a thing. Just to get a professional opinion is never a bad idea. Sending healing vines.

Furball, that's high enough. Come back down to the blue floor so Mama can see you there when she gets home. You know it makes her so happy!

I haven't shot a green PS in a long time. I took the fat off her dose and hope she surfs tonight. I was expecting a bounce by PMPS. It's funny I came home to green because I was thinking she needed a dose increase to flatten her out, but I didn't type it. She must have read my mind.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on my shin. My mom and I both did more research on it and she feels much better about it and isn't worried about a blood clot. It seems I have a hematoma and I just have to wait for it to clear up on its own. I am going to keep putting Arnica on it and try to keep it elevated when I can. That's not easy at work. I don't have any kind of help number I can call and I don't want to pay for a doctor visit if I don't need it. From what I've read, they'd probably tell me to just keep doing what I'm doing.

Hi Carla,
I think it sounds like a deep bruise. If it's a bone bruise it could take quite a while to heal. The general rule for injuries of this type is R.I.C.E.: "Rest" "Ice" "Compression" "Elevation". It is best to do this right away, but I think that you can still benefit from it. A compression calf sleeve might help, especially when you are at work and can't move around a lot. Look in a pharmacy for a compression sleeve (not a brace), or use an elastic Ace bandage (which would be bulkier, but cheaper). I have used copper-infused knee sleeves from Tommie Copper (online). They really helped. Here's a link to their website: http://www.tommiecopper.com/ Click on "Women" and then on "Legs".

Looks like Furball doesn't want a dosecrease!!:D:D Surf safe, Furball!

Sending you lots of heal-fast vines,

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

WOW!! Who is that green cat??

Furball? Is that you?? :D:D:D

What a wonderful start to tonight's cycle!!

Those airbags can really do a lot of their own damage...although it's better than not having them! They expand so fast though, they can cause some pretty serious injuries of their own. You may have some ligament or cartilage damage as well as a deep bruise, so don't let it go on too long, Carla. Sometimes you just have to have things checked out

Hope you feel better soon! At least the weekend is coming so you can (hopefully) take it easy!!

Whoo Hoo look at that PMPS!!!! :D:D:D Yep, she read her own condo about the dosecrease threat!

Sorry about your accident and the bruise on your shin- ouch! Vines being sent and I agree, keep an eye on it, don't hesitate to get it looked at if not healing properly. :bighug:
