well what a break through! we could be getting nearer!

hes eaten normal today yet for the first time in 7 looooong months weve had a full 12 hours on yellow numbers.thats NEVER happened! lets hope theres only one way to go and that's down. hes not drank much today and has wee weed twice all day :-D lets hope theres some blue numbers soon. his spreadsheet the last few days looks so much better! :-D
 
Yay for yellow! That's progress! It's a marathon, not a sprint, and you're living proof of that. Just keep on doing what you're doing and you may start seeing some blues soon. :-D
 
thanks tricia.youre so right with the marathon thing!!! heck,its been the biggest challenge of my life......................but these yellows today may just be the the little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.it at least shows me today that the insulin is working where as before ive had my doubts!! lets just hope he keeps working the juice!!!
 
Anna, It's so nice to see some progress, isn't it?! Bailey is starting to work that extra juice.

I know it's frustrating when the dose keeps going up and you don't see progress, but maybe you're honing in on that right dose.

You're doing great!
 
Ditto that yeah for the yellow!! What I found with my Rocky is that when he had that stretch of yellows it DID mean that I was getting closer to the right dose for him. If nothing else, it was a much more healing color to be in than the stinky pinkies. In fact, if Rocky would have stayed in the yellows for a longer time before tying out the blues I would have been happy with that as it means there is a small break-through for the both of us.
 
its a great feeling.i don't want to get too happy cos you know how this horrid disease is and the moutains we all climb(and then fall from) but I HAVE to stay positive and this for me(and Bails) has NEVER happened in this whole time the diabetes has ruled our lives! its not blues but its far safer than those pink and with his demeanor being so much better it makes me happier!! I just hope this neuropathy heals soon.bless him!
 
Fantastic news Anna! And those low yellows on an AlphaTrak are blue on a human glucometer. :cool:
 
gosh that makes me even happier .id forgot about the difference in the alphatrak as i know its set slightly higher than a human metre :-D

yeah hes been on zobaline for 2 months now.hes not got any worse and is still managing to jump on the sofa,bed and window sills so were doing ok although hes going to the vets a week on sat and shes going to start him on B12 injections (along with other checks for insulin resistance) so hopefully that will help alongside lowering numbers. I say my prayers!!!
 
Thrilled to see him coming down finally, Anna!

You're going to want to keep in mind that as long as you use the Alpha Trak, its numbers measure somewhere around 30-40% higher than the human meters. Our dosing numbers here in the guidelines on the stickies are all in human meter equivalents. So you could approximate that he was around 150-215ish all day today. That's just a ballpark figure for us to compare to.

At some point we're going to want to slow down his fast-tracking plan (increase by 0.5u every 4 cycles) when we start seeing better numbers. These are definitely better numbers than he's had!

Some of the decision on when that should happen depends on your comfort level. Typically, when cats start seeing blue numbers (on the human meter) we would slow down to increasing every 6-10 cycles, depending on what the numbers do. What do you think about it? If you stay with this more aggressive strategy, you may be dealing with low numbers. If you slow down, his numbers may rise back up quickly.

We don't have a crystal ball to know what's going to happen, but your comfort zone weighs into the decision, so it would be helpful to have your thoughts on it.
 
if I was at home all the time id just go for it and carry on with the fast approach and up it every 4 cycles but im a work 5 days a week and away for 4 hours at a time so I really now have to be careful! I haven't got this far to lose him having a hypo whilst at work so lets play it cycle by cycle and see how we go!

with the alphatrak metre being up (id completely forgot about this) those numbers have lowered quite a lot today and have stayed there which is awesome!!! so I may hold this for the 6-10 cycles.its a tough one as I don't know what my babes body will do but I guess ive just got to take each day as it comes!!

do you think im approaching this the right way??

No dosing advice from me - I just wanted to say that I was absolutely thrilled when I read your condo today. This is a huge improvement for Bailey, and I'm so happy for both of you. :-D

Boy, that line of yellow sure looks good today, eh?

My opinion is only that, but I think I would give this dose another day, and maybe keep the increases at 0.5 units but let him have 6 cycles on a dose to see how he does, for a bit anyway.

I bet you are one happy bean to see all those yellows :-D

Blue is just around the corner ;-)
 
yes, absolutely. Your schedule matters - we can suggest things that we think are good plans, but always the choices are yours.

sounds like it's a plan to give him 6 shots total on this dose. That will give us some data on what he does. You do a fantastic job at getting enough tests in with him - it's pretty clear what he's doing on the dose.

It also helps that you post every day. We are all keeping an eye out for you and Bailey!

Don't be horrified if he bounces. This was a really nice day for him, and his body might react to it. :-D

Good plan to hold this dose for now. There comes a point where taking each cycle as it comes is truly the best strategy. Sometimes you just have to feel your way through it.

When I checked Baileys ss and saw all that yellow I thought of the adage that a flat yellow cycle often times precedes an active cycle. . .

BRILLIANT day Anna,am so happy for you,the devotion of you, and all on the forum that have advised you is paying off.Re the neuropathy and seeing vet about injections of B12 ,am I right in thinking I read a post saying it had to be a certain type of B12 ? Maybe one of the experts will look over this and give you guidelines as to what you need to ask for.

The B12 needed for neuropathy is methylcobalamin. I have heard that is it not easy to get methycobalamin in an injectable form but maybe they have it where you live. The injectable B12 that I give to J.D. is cyanocobalamin and that is used for his pancreatitis. In the U.S., I think most methylcobalamin is given in pill form.

Anna do you think it would be of benefit to give the vet a call before you take Bailey in,to see if she can order some in for him?
