Hello my favorites kitties! ❤️🥰
As you probably remember from our last post Blanche was wondering what she had to do to earn an OTJ trial!
I was on a trip for 3 days and she drop the Libre the morning I arrived home! I have a new one but I run out from skin tac wipes and I decide to wait for the order to arrive and not risk an other fall at the 7th day.
So since 04/14 AMPS+4 we are on blood GM and even if missed some exact "preshot" times (due to an erratic work schedule) I think she is doing really well. She is on strict wet LC diet plus the customary 1/2 boiled egg at each one of her main meals (one egg per day).
My only concern is that yesterday she was very vocal when she went to pee and I'm afraid she has an UTI infection (and I cant understand why! )
We have a vet appointment at 04/23 for an ultrasound and a urine test (even if I'm not so confident we will be able to catch her with her bladder full). In the meantime the vet prescribed her 1/4 of neurontin 400g /12h. It is impressive how the contstant need to pee stoped whithin minutes from the first administration.
Well, to be honest, that is my main concern but not the only one. For a mysterious reason, the household became a war field! She hiss at the others two every time she cross one of them, she is always hidding or at my side growlling if one of the others two even think to approach. She is constantly on high alert and I dont know what to do! I'm sure some of her rare low blues are due to the stress from fighting.
I bought a feliway friends (for the first time in 12 years! ), I have it on 4 days now but I have yet to see any improovment.
She was the boss of the household and now she is affraid to came out from under the table to lounge at her favorite sunny spot!
If you have any idea of what happening, please share.

@Bandit's Mom, @tiffmaxee and @Mary & Jude, he asked me to show you her 53@PMPS+6 and ask you, please, can she start a OTJ trial ?
She is anxious to meet Lady Arya Stark and Nestle at the Falls! 🩵

When, exactly, did the house become a war zone? Was it after you returned? While you were gone? After you took her to the vet??

Also, it's possible to do a free-catch of urine at home. People try multiple different methods, but the one that works for Jude is this: I wait until he goes to the box to urinate, and as soon as he starts urinating, I slide a relatively flat bowl underneath him. The key is to wait until the urination starts--someone on here told me that once a kitty starts urinating, it is almost impossible for them to stop, so it's much easier at that point to slide something under them for the free-catch. Your doctors might prefer a cystocentesis, though, to avoid any possible contamination of the urine specimen. Be sure, once your vet has the specimen, to ask for a culture and sensitivity if bacteria is found in the urine. Avoiding doing this is a mistake I have made in the past; if bacteria is present, it's important to make sure that you are treating it with the correct antibiotic.

Let's also tag @Wendy&Neko, since I believe she has also had her eye on Blanche.

Hello Mary!

I think it start before I left but it was a gradual evolution. The first note in ss is at 04/06. It was a lot of uglier when I came back. I came back Tuesday and Thursday I bought the Feliway. It cannot be the different food, every one has his one PetSure feeder and they love their food. I had a thought: since she drop the Libre I stopped to dress her. Is it possible that she is self conscious about her fur? She has to shaved spots, the one rather larger than the other. To the vet we will go in 2 days.

That's exactly why the vet prefers a cystocentesis, she want to run a culture and a sensitivity test.

What often triggers my multi-cat household is 1) a trip to the vets, which causes the patient to return to the clowder with an odor the others don't care for; 2) another cat outside; 3) they will sometimes turn on one another when one is ill or smells different; 4) fights over territory.

Really, any disruption in the status quo (you being gone, etc.) can cause issues. Fortunately, mine usually settle down, eventually.

A urine free catch is not a good idea if you are trying to diagnose a UTI. It can get bacteria from the outside of the bladder. As long as she hasn't peed for a couple hours, her bladder should be full enough for the clinic to get enough pee to test. Even if the urinalysis shows no bacteria, a culture may still find one, especially if the urine is dilute. If you are seeing other signs of a UTI, a culture is best. Not sure you need an ultrasound, unless a kidney infection is suspected.

Let me get some other opinions on the trial.

Hello Wendy, thanks for passing by,
the ultrasound is for eliminate the possibility of stones in the bladder.

This is exactly my problem: We haven't be in the vet, no other cats outside (3d floor), she is not presently ill. In fact we had never problem with fights when ill, not once at 12 years! And it's not the first time I left for a trip. And they don’t seem willing to settle down...

  • Start the trial on the next green pre shot
  • If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!
  • Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. Please use the “OTJ Trial” dropdown prefix on your subject line every day so we can closely monitor the trial.
  • He/she may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.
  • After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!
Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him/her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

Are you serious? 🥰
So I'm the OTJ without the 14 day countdown? How I will tell her? 🙃
I cannot know how to live without poking her ear! :cat:

She’s been without insulin and has the bg of a cat without fd. The not poking will be hard I think. Weaning away is part of the countdown. I bet many sneak some extra tests in, lol. 🙂💕

I had scheduled a new Lire to be installed at Thursday!
Ok I will not install the Libre, but I will definitely test her twice a day! I'm addicted to check her BG! 🙃
(I smile like a fool! 🤩)

This is an unusual situation since we normally have a countdown, but I think you should create a post for 4/21 and title it "4/21 Blanche is OTJ." This calls for a celebration!!

Darn it… we’ve been so busy playing we forgot to tell you she’s been here all along!!!

We L♥️VE her!!!

Lady Arya…. 🥰🦋🥰

Congratulations!!!! A stealth/surprise OTJ!

I hope the fighting stops for you soon. My two behave in the exact same way when one (or both) return from the vet. Since they smell the vet on the other cat (or themselves) it really messes with their recognition of each other. It usually calms down in a few days for mine. But rereading your post it doesn't sound like Blanche has been to the vet yet, so that doesn't really apply to your situation. Maybe they just need to settle down from having sitter and you being away.

Thank you all for your love and kindness and you are right, this is a HUGE reason for celebration! ❤️
Nothing would be possible without your help, without your very existence...
I think I will wait for the lab result for the urine test and if all will be well, the weekend I will invite you to her party! 🤩
