399 +4

That +4 was after a long walk outside in the full moon light, and when we got back it was time for his 3rd dinner.
It's hard to feed a 399.

J.D. was super friendly all night. Well sometimes, he puts his entire furry leg over my entire nose like he's trying to... no, he wouldn't do that.

At least he's coming down. He's waiting anxiously to go outside.

Thanks Dian

Ginger and I had an adventure. While J.D. stayed on the porch steps to deposit a couple more hairballs (there was one on the livingroom carpet this morning, but I thought it was Ginger's), me and Ginger went for a walk to the other side of the woods. Where the big lawn meets the woods, where the cats like to graze along the edge of the grass. I was about 20 feet ahead of Ginger, and then I looked back at Ginger and saw her stalking something. Sure enough something was moving about 3 feet in front of her. I told her "No" and rushed to investigate (luckily "No" is a word Ginger understands, unlike her big brother  ). It was a vole (I think). Soft dark gray fur and blind. A baby (I think). I grabbed Ginger and held her while we watched it finally find it's blind way back into the woods from about 2 feet in on the lawn. Then I saw another one. The same size. I thought it was dead, but when I touched it, it moved. So, I helped that one back into the woods and under a bush. Then I found another dead one, and then another dead one. All about 2 feet out on the lawn.. I layed the two dead ones next to each other  , next to the bush that their brothers climbed under. I wonder if it was the fault of the people who mowed the lawns about an hour before.

Thanks Dian :-D

Okay, so now I have a baby vole.
I went to check on them and one of the ones that was going into the bushes, only made it part way, and I thought it was dead..kind of stiff. But, it wasn't. It moved it's head weakly. So, I thought I would hold it until it passed. Then I had this great notion to try to give it some milk or something. I gave it a little bit of half and half. It feels a lot better now.
Anyone know what to do with a baby vole? I left a message with the wildlife people...who say "do not handle or feed the animal"

Re: 04/18 J.D. +10.5 50, +11 62 What to do with a Mole?

I guess it's a mole. I just googled voles and they have eyes. This animal does not.
J.D. says he knows what I can do with it. So, does Ginger.

And I am a gardener who agrees with J.D. and Ginger...

Re: 04/18 J.D. PMPS 78 and OT: what to do with a baby mole?

i'd put it back out exactly where you found it - perhaps its mother will reclaim it, or nature will take its course. but i don't want an eyeless baby mole whose life's goal is to make tunnels in my house, maybe you do! :-D

The pet store people were very helpful, and thought he was cute (which he is, even if he doesn't have eyes). I got Esbilac (puppy milk replacer) and he drank it from a syringe. She told me to take a small plastic bottle (like an old medicine bottle) and put a small hole near the bottom and put some cloth inside the bottle and pull a little of the cloth out the hole like a nipple, then fill it with the milk, for when I'm gone all day at work. Now, to just find a place where I can put him where my cats won't find him..

I hope the wildlife people will call me tomorrow, and take him. Otherwise, the lady at the pet store said she would take him, if I don't hear back from them.

wow... Nice day J.D.

Moles are so stinkin' adorable (feel free to post pictures, hehe) but they're a pain in the rear end when they're digging in your yard.

Aww Dyana, that was very nice of you to help it. I'm glad you do have someone to take it if the wild life people don't call you back.

Re: 04/18 J.D. PMPS 78 and OT: what to do with a baby mole?

Hi Dyana,
Last summer Monique (Monique & Spooky) adopted a mole (an adult) for a while. She posted videos of her (her name was Paula) in Pat's (Pat Raja Shadow) condo. Perhaps PM Monique, or check with Pat (Monique often visits Raja's and Shadow's condos).

This baby and the others sound like a litter that has lost it's mama. What are they doing above ground? If gardeners were working, they may have disturbed the nest.

Good luck. I like moles. They dig tunnels under your lawn, but they also aerate the soil.

Ella & Rusty

Dyana - That is so sweet and kind of you to help that baby mole. Thanks for making me smile! Yes...let's see some pictures!

Okay, here's a couple pictures. They aren't very good, and the mole is a lot cuter than it looks.

Off to bed now, because the wildlife people called me back, and I am going to deliver to them at 8:00am tomorrow morning. I don't think they were very happy that I was feeding it, but hello, it needs to eat. It's doing a whole lot better than when I found it. And it's peeing and pooping just fine.

I'll have to leave the house early tomorrow, so J.D., no funny stuff.
