Nice start...maybe some blues and greens today![]()

I also started exactly the same... I now freehand with 30gauge and keep some 28 ones on hand in case of low numbers and I need a bigger sample.I'm running low on the 28 gauge lancets I've been using and need some advice.
When Daph was first diagnosed, I bought the AlphaTrak meter which came with a lancet pen. Because I was not successful with the pen, I resorted to doing the prick myself. I feel like I am causing her a lot of pain and I wonder a. if people feel the pens are less painful; and b. if people who do a manual prick use 30 gauge lancets. Thanks for any thoughts you can share.

Hi Karen, I have always used the 28 gauge lancets freehand. If you can get blood out of the 30 gauge lancets then get them. Tyler never fells anything when I test him with the 28 gauge .The higher number on the lancets the bigger the hole

Also, to save a couple of pennies, I buy the CVS brand or Walgreens brand of lancets.
Ive only used 28g. it varies how much blood I get. Higher numbers usually yield more blood. I dont use the lancet pen.
26 or 28 gauge and will make a bigger "hole". The 30 gauge will make smaller holes . I edited what I said in my post #6From what I've read, even though this is counter-intuitive, the larger numbers are smaller gauge and draw less blood. Here's something I found:
Higher numbers on the lancet like 30 gauge will make a smaller hole in the ears, 26 and 28 gauge will make a bigger holeHigher numbers usually yield more blood. I dont use the lancet pen.

Yes I corrected it in my post #6Yup, thats what I was saying. Going smaller with the 30, and Daphne’s going to thank me.
